Can I annotate pubs in the library?

Hi all, new user here...

I have started using Calibre as a library manager for old pubs I use for genealogy research. I seldom use them on an ereader. My question: Within Calibre, is there a way to keep simple informal notes and annotations for each title? Something I can see while looking at the Calibre UI. Thanks in advance...

You can add them to the book's comments via edit metadata.

Proper annotation support is on Kovid's long-term TODO list, which is already pretty long, and we probably won't see this for a year/years/who knows?

You can also add custom columns. These can be things about the text you wish to search on.

@sturdy2 - You can also add custom columns of type long text.

A long text column has the same features as Comments but it is accessible via the book list cells - i.e. F2 on a long text cell and up pops the Comments Editor

And of course you can more then one of them, and if the information you want to put into it is 'structured' you could even use a form and javascript.

Duh, now I feel really stupid! For some reason I failed to see the comments area in metadata. I guess it was too obvious...my thanks to all.
