KT crashing on page turns after upgrade to 3.0.1
My KT was crashing on page turns. Sometimes after a few turns, sometimes after 20 or so, not predictable. Closest I could come to a pattern is maybe, if I let my finger slide a little as I touch it, then it crashes.
Some crashes caused it to lose settings after a reset, some caused it to go back the the initial welcome page and have to choose a language. I factory reset it, and was surprised that, when I sync'ed it, it upgraded itself back to 3.0.1. Unfortunately the problems persisted, so I am now trying to factory reset it and get back to 2.6.1. Just looking for some advice and to hear if others have had similar experiences. |

Yep. Had this problem. Just sent back my Kobo Touch because of it.
What I found out: if you let the reader sit for a while, it will eventually -- sometimes it takes up to 30 minutes -- move forward, so you don't need to reset. That of course doesn't make reading easy. I spent a while trying to figure out what was causing it -- disabled all sorts of things, nothing made it better. Got rid of books, tried smaller books. That didn't help. It seems to occur about 20 minutes or so after I started reading each session. If I left it alone and waited for it to advance after freezing, it would take less time to "unstick" each time. I wound up contacting Kobo and just got a replacement reader in the mail. If they hadn't offered a replacement, I was going to go into the developers thread and try to manually update it back to the 2.1.5 version I was using for a long time because it was so nice and stable. I wish I had more to report to you. Kobo wasn't sure if it was a touchscreen issue or a software issue. Seeing more reports of problems makes me think it's software, and not a coincidental touchscreen issue on the same day I updated. |

Well, mine is way out of warranty, so I will just see how it goes on 2.6.1 for a while.
Going back to an earlier version is easy enough, so long as you don't forget and let it try to sync/update ever again. |

I'm curious, my Touch has not upgraded beyond 3.0.0. So far I've noticed no problems with 3.0.0. Did either of you have 3.0.0, or did it upgrade over the air directly to 3.0.1 from a lower version skipping 3.0.0? My Touch is a N905B, which may also make a difference.

If 2.6.1 behaves without this problem, I will know it's not hardware problems, and I might give 3.0.0 a go. The main thing I want out of the upgrade is the fix for the italics problem, so I really did want to get past 2.6.1 eventually. |

Well, I read for a hour last night, using 2.6.1, and not one problem, not one. Seems pretty conclusive to me, however, I will finish the book I am on, and if it goes well, I will try 3.0.0 firmware out next.

![]() I'd planned on going back to 2.1.5, but had sent an email to Kobo asking if there were known problems, and they sent a new reader (a glo), so I never bothered to try going back to 2.1.5, just sent the old one back last week. So I can't say that rolling back the upgrade would help, but jusmee's experience seems to confirm my suspicions that that's the solution. jusmee, I'm glad yours is working again. ![]() |

In addition my KT cannot see my WiFi network. It finds others in the locality, but not mine. I've tried entering the details manually to no avail. My 2 computers and Nexus7 connect with no problem. The Kobo help desk reckons it's something to do with my router but I haven't altered any settings (wouldn't know how to anyway) and why should my other devices be OK while the KT just stopped connecting? Anyone got any bright ideas? |

As for the WiFi problem, best to start a new thread with that problem in the title - that way others will see it, and someone may have an answer. |

Touch wood, so am I. Another huge bonus of going back to 2.6.1, is that I can, once again, select "Mark as Finished" when I get to the end, and not have to page through multiple back pages. Why did they remove that from the bottom RH menu? That and the ability to place on a shelf both disappeared in 3.0.1.

I’ve got the same problem here, N905B with firmware 3.0.1. No, it doesn’t crash just once, mine crashes every nth page, n being as low as one… And the annoying part is that every single crash drains the battery even faster than any actual reading.

Mine has been rock solid since I went back to 2.6.1. I have finished a whole book. My next move is to try 3.0.0 as suggested above, but I worry, because of disastrous bugs like this, and old bugs like the sleep bug creeping back in, I think Kobo have stuffed up big time with version control and gone back to some real old code.

when you say it crashes every few page turns, what happens? i think what others of us have experienced isn't a crash, but the os seems to freeze up. it essentially takes a long time to cause the page to turn, and until it does, it appears frozen on the last screen you were reading until it unfreezes. which is different than a crash.

What I was having happen: it would get stuck on a page, and the first few times, I'd reset it, and it would lose my place in the book.
I discovered by accident that I was able to wait it out ... it got stuck when i was out and about, and didn't have a paper clip to reset it. it eventually unfroze, and didn't lose my place. so i'm not sure this is a true "crash" ... it did reset when i forced it to, but otherwise, it froze, and would eventually unfreeze. eventually being sometimes a half-hour. |
