				Saving highlights/notes in an ePub?

I have several books I have formatted as ePubs, and am field-testing them on my Aura HD. The idea is to find errors, note them, and take them back to the formatting software for amendment. I've tried adding notes and/or highlights to any errors I find, but these don't seem to be exportable from the device. (Or have I missed something?) I'd really like to be able to save notes in the ePub, for future uses. But in the meantime, for this purpose: Is the only solution to page through the book on the Aura HD while sitting at my PC, editing the file? Or can anyone suggest another way, please, of achieving what I'm trying to do? |

You can add to the file .kobo\Kobo\Kobo eReader.conf Code: ExportHighlights=true I order to save the highlights/annotations of a book to a text file go to Library > Books > the three line symbol on the right side of the book entry > Export Highlights. |

Personally, when I am read a book with errors, I do what you are doing. I mark them and then when I am at the PC, I use the annotations list to view them so that I can fix them. But, to export the annotations, as well as the above option, there are some other ways. If you are a calibre user, there is "Fetch annotations" (or something like that) on the device menu. This appends the annotations to the comments field of the metadata in the calibre library. It shows the highlighted text plus the annotation. Again for calibre users, there is the Annotation plugin. Like the built-in calibre function, this fetches the annotations, but it can put them into a custom column. It is also handles them better if you use multiple devices or change them in the calibre library. Currently, this doesn't support the Kobo devices, but I have an updated for it that works very well. It is ready to go, I just need to organise things with the Annotations plugin author. I can supply it to you if you would like to test it. There are also some apps or scripts to extract the info that have been posted here. I don't know if any are maintained but there hasn't been a change in how annotations are stored on the device for a long time. Lastly, if the epub is on the main memory of the device, there is a file with the annotations in it. This is produced by the Adobe RMSDK side of the reader. It is in the directory "Digital Editions/Annotations". The rest of the path matches the path to the epub and the file has the extension "annot". This is an XML file that can easily be read to see the annotations. And with a little care, can be copied to the PC to use with ADE. And with mention of the annotations file, I should mention a bug in the annotation handling. If the book is on the main memory, when the book is reopened, the annotations file is reread. This replaces the annotations in the database. Unfortunately, when that happens, it messes some things up. The annotations are correctly displayed in the books, but, the position in the annotation list is wrong. They should be grouped under the chapters they are in with the percentage through the book shown, but they will all be grouped under the chapter you are reading when you reopen the book and the percent will be zero. This doesn't happen for books on the SD card. |

There is a new version of the Annotations plugin which includes support for Kobo devices. Also, I am taking over the development of the plugin. GRiker is taking a long vacation, and has passed his plugins on to other developers. |

I have tested your annotatios plugin, it works well for my kobo.Thank you for your plugin. Could you please add a batch-export function in the plugin that I can export all the annotations to the clipbord or txt/xml. (Now, I can only preview the annotations and copy the annotations to a txt one by one. If there is a batch export function, i can batch export the annotations to the computer.) Thank you for your help. Best Regards, fengcuo Last edited by fengcuo; 09-23-2015 at 12:44 AM. | |

The method in this link (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php? ) is worked on koreader. davidfor 's plugin is a calibre plugin and the plugin can fetch the annotations on kobo nickel.
