html file becomes a monster

I've been trying to convert my .doc file (my novel) to epub. I convert first to html and get a 1.3mb file (so far so good) but, when I import to calibre, I end up with a 31.4mb file and finally an approx 34mb epub file. This is way too large for emailing to friends. Why are they sooooo large ???

I suspect you file reference a bunch of (large?) images. The HTML only links to images. When you make the EPUB the images are ALSO pulled into the EPUB file. Add fonts (embed fonts option), more bigger

When you are converting word documents dont go via the html route, go via the docx route. http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/conv...word-documents

Thanks for the quick replys. My problem turned out to be the embedded font option. When I turned it off, my epub file reduced from over 30 megs down to less than half a meg.
Thanks again everyone.

Yikes!
Using the new Tweak, are there a bazillion @fonts statements in the code near the beginning of each section? This is a nasty Word habit of including the List of fonts on your system. It looks a if the Embed feature can't determine if the are actually USED before embedding.

Get the Modify EPUB Plugin, it can help clean out a lot of the cruft various programs put into non-DRM books.
