Two books open
Sorry if this has been addressed before, but is there any method for having two different books open at the same time in any of the Kindle apps? I'm aware it can't be done on the Kindle itself, but if I want to compare two different historians description of an event, it would be nice to have them both open next to each other for comparison.

You have multiple reading devices, so why not have a different book open on two devices?

You could use two different reading apps on your PC. That would also work.

I tried installing a second Kindle app but it just installs on top of the one I already have installed, hence my frustration. That was actually my first go-to-solution.

No, I mean two different apps. As you say, you can't run two instances of the Kindle App. But you can run the Kindle app alongside, say, the Calibre reader.

Or install and run one copy in a VM. Win 7 Pro owners can still download and install XP mode (get it done before MS terminates XP support next spring) and everyone else can use VMWARE Player, but need to provide their own guest Windows OS. Its a lot of work though just to get two instances of the same software running concurrently, but if you already have a Windows VM for other uses, is worth considering.
However the Calibre E-book Viewer does allow multiple instances. I just launched two instances of it (without starting the main Calibre program) and have two different MOBI format books open and tiled side by side right now. |

Didn't think about the Calibre viewer, thanks for that suggestion.

edit: Too late. Missed that another poster said that already ![]() Once I had over 10 of them open while adding and checking books in Calibre. (I thought it was always the same one that re-opened with a new book, so I actually didn't close the window.) |
