Remove Underlines (Blue Links)
Hello,
I have a mobi book in which a good portion of the book is underlined in blue, linking to another part of the book. I want to get rid of these underlines, and either convert to AZW3 or just stay with mobi. I've gotten rid of the underlines/blue links when converting from mobi to epub, but once I try and convert the epub to mobi (after deleting the original mobi) the blue underlines reappear, even applying the same css over-ride (the code of which I found on these forums). I tried with and without the over-ride. Using Calibre, how would I get rid of these underlines? Thanks, Alan |

After converting to epub, edit with Sigil to remove the link. Or at least make it smaller. Most likely it is also possible to remove the link using search and replace, but I would use Sigil instead.

a drastic solution it to convert to txt then back to mobi - that will for sure remove them but it will remove other formatting also..
convert to RTF & back may also work & will not erase all formatting |

Neither could I find a way to use seach-replace in Sigil to remove problem more quickly. If someone has a pointer on what string to use for search-replace it would be immensely appreciated. At least I got rid of the blue, which seemed more troublesome than the underlines themselves. Still, there are times when whole pages are underlined, and in such cases I have to be careful when turning the page not to jump ahead to some endnote. Thanks! Alan |

Find the class used: (You can use the e-book viewers 'Inspector', then use Tweak-EPUB and Notepad editor to edit the CSS)
this Leaves the <a tags in place change (or add) color: black; (blue is a link default) change (or add) text-decoration: none; (underline is the default) |

You have a good shot at removing the underlines from a KF8 kindlebook (either the KF8 portion of a dual format MOBI or a stand-alone AZW3). But a true, dyed-in-the-wool, old-fashioned MOBIPOCKET book?? I'm not sure you can do it with calibre to be honest.
You used to be able to override the Kindle's default underlining behavior by using the <mbp:nu> tag preceding a link (with MobiPocket Creator and kindlegen), but I don't know that THAT even works anymore (or if calibre ever honored that particular mobi markup tag). The reason you had to go to such great lengths to eliminate the line were fairly self-explanatory: on a black & white screen with no mouse pointer (and no touch capabilities) ... how on earth would you know there was a link there without some sort of visual indication? It sounds like that there are errors in the original HTML, where they aren't closing their <a> tags properly. You would have to edit the source to fix that.

Thanks everyone for the replies and suggestions. I at least got rid of the blue, and with straight black the underlinings aren't as bad.
But still, with entire pages sometimes underlined, it's a chore sometimes to even turn the page. Thankfully it's only a 300 page book, which I will finish in no time. Alan |
