I upgraded my ITunes and am not able to download books through ITunes. I was able to get to Calibre server and choose the book I wanted to download and it put it on my desktop. I do not know how to get it on my ibook on my iPad Help. Safari did not give me a choice to open with Ibooks on my iPad. It had get under the book and when I clicked on that it went to my desktop. Can anyone give me a step by step process. Much thanks

Are you using a Mac running OSX Lion? If so then the latest iTunes update appears to have introduced what is known as 'Sandboxing' which stops Calibre from using the feature it used to integrate with iTunes.

When you said you tried Content server and it did not work, what did you mean? Did you get as far as being able to see the Calibre Content server via Safari?
Another way to access the Content Server is via the free 'eBook Search" app on iOS which uses the Content Server OPDS interface rather than the HTML one - you may find that you prefer to interact with the Content server at that level! |

Apple and Calibre
I was able to get to see my books on content server but when I tried to get access through Safari another time I was not able to access it. After playing around with this and reading other comments, I was able to drag the book from Calibre(after I downloaded the cover and converted to epub) and drag it into iTunes and from there sync it to my IPAD and was successful.

Where do you access the content server on the ebook app. I browsed thru it but was not clear where to access calibre content server or my books. When I go to personal account on feedback..it ask you to sign in. Is this a safe place to sign in and does it require a paid membership. Thanks..

Hit the Edit button, and then the green '+' symbol to allow you to enter the details of the Calibre Content server on your system under 'Other Catalogs'. The existing entries Under the 'Free Books' section point to a number of online catalogs from which books can be downloaded. |

Ebook search app
Thanks I am getting closer. Hopefully the last question. When I go to add a catalog it asks for Catalog URL and then title and subtitle. Where do I get the Url and are the books listed separately or do all the books on the content server come up? Which brings me to the last question 'what is the subtitle'. Again thanks for your help

The title and sub-title fields can be anything you like with the sub-title being optional. They are what will show up as the Catalog name after you have finished adding it.
The catalog URL will be the network address of the machine running the calibre Content server and the port that calibre has been set to use for its content server. It should be very similar to the URL you have already been using from Safari to access the Content server. The only difference is that you want to add /opds to the end of the URL to get the OPDS style catalog. As an example on my machine I would use: Code:
http://192.168.1.90:8787/opds/ Once you have the entry set up correctly you should be able to use it to browse through your catalog and select books to be downloaded. You will have to decide if you prefer thus interface to your ebook library to the browser based one you can get from Safari. As an aside it is also possible to use a calibre2opds generated OPDS catalog (see my sig) as an alternative to the Calibre Content Server. It all depends on whether you want to keep the Calibre Content server running ot not. |
