Removing books

Sorry if this has been asked already, I have just done an extensive reload onto the T1, new books are shown but there are also books being shown as being removed. Used Calibre to do the changes.
Any ideas please?

Havent used Calibre that way for a while but as I REMEMBER If you used Calibre to sync then any books already on your device NOT in the calibre library will be removed.

i HONESTLY DON'T KNOW WHY PEOPLE BOTHER WITH CALIBRE OR (SHUDDER) THE pc READER SOFTWARE... THEY JUST SEEM TO CAUSE PROBLEMS, i JUST DRAG -N- DROP BOOKS TO MY DEVICE AND THEN ORGANIZE THEM ON THE DEVICE OVER 1200 BOOKS LOADED AND NO PROBLEMS

Calibre only causes real problems for people who don't take the time to learn how to use it.

Other people have reported a similar issue. Here is another thread discussing this issue.

I totally agree, I use calibre a lot, my point was loading and organizing books on your device should (and can be) a simple process that should not require a "learning curve" using sync whether with calibre or pc reader just complicates this process ... anyways "different strokes" etc

use calibre only for conversion

I like the way Sony Reader organizes books.

However calibre does it with tags. The developer says in the faq:

"http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq.html says: Given that calibre‘s mission is to get you to stop storing metadata in filenames and stop using the filesystem to find things, the increased robustness afforded by the id numbers is well worth the uglier folder names...
If you are still not convinced, then I’m afraid calibre is not for you. Look elsewhere for your book cataloguing needs. Just so we’re clear, this is not going to change. Kindly do not contact us in an attempt to get us to change this."

I respect that given that it is freeware, but therefore I use calibre only to organise books in my Mac, covert them to epub or not, organize the DRMs with plugins. But then I take the file from "Calibre library" folder and manually transfer (drag and drop) to the SD card of the t1 in the media-books folder.

Calibre collection default is tags
Customise the Sony plugin and it is whatever you want. Takes 10 seconds and is highly customizable and automatic.

And if you want series collections it will automatically put them in order.

And if you take it further you can have the series info displayed on the Sony.

But it is a multi reader software so requires a few minutes of the users time for reader specific functions.

Why not use the "Save as" and customise the names for that action... you can then have your files automatically transferred to your SD card with your choice of naming system and the calibre db as a backup...

Stop spreading false information. I've used Calibre on a T1 where the content on the T1 was NOT in the Calibre library being used and NONE of the eBook on the T1 and not in the Calibre library were removed.

I'm sorry you don't know what you are doing. But please don't go telling others it's the fault of Calibre when it's clearly your fault.

Geez.. calm down lol...I was NOT blaming calibre and it was NOT MY problem I was merely suggesting a possible cause to the original poster but if you say it is not so... then I will accept that... just to be clear I love calibre and stand in awe of the developers and their decision to make it free they deserve our thanks....

That is not how you made it sound. You made it sound like both Calibre and Reader for PC were awful and should not be used. So yes, you were blaming Calibre. Just accept it and let's move on.

I agree I would not be so categorical. Calibre is very useful in interconverting book formats on my mac. But, unless you are a fan of Steve Job and his "sync" concept, by which you cannot transfer music and files to ipods and phones without going through iTunes and its shop and do a "sync" (this is the catch word), I strongly prefer a more user friendly drag-and-drop mechanismto transfer files to the reader.
I only wish there was a way I could put books in different folders in the reader and those where recognized/shown up by the interface as folders (and if that was really not fashionable enough), as collections. Maybe there is and if someone more skilled than me would point me out how...

Yes, the Collection feature doesn't seem user friendly. In the reader itself you must first create a new collection. Then for each book you want to add to a collection one by one. There should be a check box system to add multiple books to a collection all at once. Doing it one at a time takes ages. When you have created a collection it doesn't group the books together at all for normal browsing.

It's no better in the Sony Reader software itself. I couldn't work out how to create a colllection and, to get the thread back on track, delete a book on there either.

In the end I removed all the books I wanted from the Library and then I synced which successfully removed them from the reader as well. Hope this helps.

Somebody mentioned apple and iTunes before. In iTunes, Sync is not the only way to update your iPod. You can do it manually - Essential if your library is bigger then the capacity of your iPod.
