Total Newb seeking help

I'm trying to get my Toshiba Thrive to talk to the collection of books I have on my PC (Calibre).

On my tablet, I have obtained: Calibre Library (as well as aldiko, wordplayer, Moon + , etc).

Following every instructional page I can find I get to the point where "Sharing Over the Net" and it just doesn't like my 8080 Port. "Port 8080 not free on" my IP address.

I read that disabling my Virus protection should do the trick. I do and it doesn't.

I can manually change the port (8079 for instance) and it works but I can't get to anything else.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

On my Windows 7 Pro sysytem I have always had problems with port 8080, but if I change the Content Server to use 8787 everything works fine.

You will also need to ensure that your firewall is configured to let Calibre act as a server on whatever port that you use if you want to be able to see it from outside the PC running Calibre.

Anti-virus do not block ports. Firewalls do
Just curious Do you know what is using 8080? Did you intend this (basic Security breach thinking).

1) you have the Calibre Server running on 8079.
You fire Up Firefox/IE... on the SAME PC and punch in <your IP>:8079
Do you get the Calibre Welcome screen?
