Jailbreak Kindle Paperwhite 5.3.8

Hi everybody. First post here!

Is it possible to Jailbreak the Kindle Paperwhite 5.3.8 firmware without downgrading it? There are many tutorials about downgrading to 5.3.5 before jailbreaking, then upgrade back to 5.3.8.

And, if the only way is downgrading... I know that a risk always exists, but considering I am developer and a experienced linux user, should I be afraid of doing it?

a) No.

b) what risk?
EDIT: Downgrading is installing an official amazon update... I trust them to put put updates that are "device safe". as for the JB/rooting it's one tiny file.

About the "risk"... I know some people that had hard trouble when jailbreaking cellphones, and as I have never did this kind of procedure before in any kind of device... That's the reason I am a little afraid of doing it!
