'Download metadata' problem
The 'Download metadata' facility used to find info 9 times out of 10. Now it's more like 1 in 10
It just comes up with "Failed to find any books that match your search" In the 'Configure Metadata download' window I have Amazon.com, Big Book search, Google and Open Library selected. Is there anything I can change to improve the search function? I'm running vers3.16 Thanks in advance for any help offered |

Look at the log, it will tell you what is failing. Most likely you just need to change the server used to download metadata from amazon, as you are being blocked by the default server.

Isn't that rather the behaviour you'd expect? After all, a book's metadata is set by the publisher, and then sent to all the bookstores. If a book is lacking metadata, the odds are that it will lack it everywhere. It's unlikely that any metadata source will have metadata that's not already in the book.

I've been using Amazon US for metadata without problems for a long time.
As of today, I'm getting pretty much this same failure from Amazon US's server. (Changing to Amazon CA got results coming through again.) Maybe Amazon is blacklisting heavy users? |

Amazon has been blacklisting IP addresses for a while. calibre currently uses various different sources for amazon metadata, google, bing, internet archive in addition to amazon itself. You can configure these sources via Preferences->Metadata download

Same problem with downloading metadata
Unable to download Metadata and Covers for Calibre. Have tried changing the server for Amazon without success. Still getting the 'Failed to find any books that Match you search'. Have opened my Firewall as well, removed my adblocker program and closed Little Snitch as other options to fix the problem.
Here is the error message..... Any ideas? calibre, version 3.17.0 ERROR: No matches found:
Failed to find any books that match your search. Try making the search less specific. I tried to download metadata with Calibre 3.17, but this failed.
I decided to upgrade to the latest version, 3.18, but no success. MacOS High Sierra calibre, version 3.18.0 ERROR: Download failed: Failed to download metadata. That's an error launching the worker process calibre uses to download metadata, most likely something on your computer blocking it (many antivirus/security programs block processes that access the internet often).

Well, I have been using Bitdefender for over two years now, always alongside Calibre, and never had this problem.
