Weird, that link doesn't go to the same page anymore, but I did see it about twenty minutes ago. It had a few photos of someone handling the new 7" Oasis. Very sharp-looking device. It will be hard to resist a Christmas gift to myself.

It's actually cheaper than the current Oasis, and you get double the storage for your money. See the separate thread.

In the future, I'm sure they will, but not today. That's it for the pre-Christmas Kindle release announcements. We've had new Fire models and now a new eInk model.

The next announcement "in the coming months" will be when they add Bluetooth to Voyage 2 and Paperwhite 4. The press release mentioned that Audible will be coming to Oasis 1 and Kindle 8, because those devices have Bluetooth. So they will soon update all models to have Bluetooth. Maybe some other features, too.

Do you think there'll be a "Voyage 2"? This device appears to have all the features that the Voyage does.

They will not kill off the Voyage model. So yes, I think the 2nd gen will have Bluetooth at the very least. I have no idea if Amazon will add waterproofing or the larger display to the Voyage line, although I think a 7" Voyage would be pretty neat.

That's a very "definite" statement. How do you know what they will or won't do with it? Moving the battery back into the device and adding adaptive lighting has removed most of what differentiated the Voyage from the Oasis.

OK, I will be less definite. I personally don't think they will kill off the Voyage.

What do you feel would be the incentive to maintain separate Voyage and Oasis ranges if they had no real distinguishing features to separate them?

Odd that you feel I need to justify a personal opinion. But whatever... Yes, I do think there's a nice little space--price and feature-wise--between Paperwhite and Oasis. That's where the Voyage sits. It's a little better than the Paperwhite. Has a flush screen, page press buttons, a lighter design. And the Oasis is a little better with a metal back, larger display, waterproofing.

It's long been about the "little better" with the Kindle line. I recently bought Kindle Touch(s) for my 3 daughters, because they were cheap and still work great. (I love the old Pearl displays without a capacitive layer. Very clear.) I just don't see too many differences between those devices and newer models. And in my mind that's a good description of the Kindle "up-buy" decision lately: There just aren't many differences for most people. The Paperwhite is a fantastic device at a good price. But Amazon knows that there are some people (us) who will pay a little more for flush screen, page press, more even lighting, jacket-pocket size, etc. And now they're hoping we'll pay even more for a larger display, more storage, waterproofing, etc.

Do you really think there's no space between the $120 Paperwhite and the $250 Oasis? What feature would you add or take away from the Voyage to make that space more logical in your mind?

Amazon has kept the lousy battery life. Apple can make thinner/light iPads/iPhones and yet they keep the battery life the same or similar enough.
