Sony eReader was sold on almost unused, Kindle hardly ever out of wife's hand, first basic Kindle, then PW1 followed by PW2 and now KV. Fab devices to read from and that's all that really counts in the end. |

Anyway I liked the Kindle Keyboard a lot but I was always clumsily hitting a button while I was reading and taking myself out of the book or popping something up to distract me. I had considered buying the original Kindle but it just looked way too clumsy to hold. The second one looked better but not good enough. I was glad to finally move to the Kindle 4 and then the Touch to get away from all those keys. It kind of reminded me of driving through an obstacle course. ![]() Since then a friend has been given an original Kindle. I'd loaned him an old Paperwhite a few times and he thought this would be a good replacement. He had the same problem I had and I later gave him my old Kindle 4, which he likes a lot better. I think they got the design right with the Touch. That was the first Kindle that really made sense. And since then they've been getting better and better. I read with a Voyage now and I hope they come out with a newer and better model but I don't really care if they don't. It's hard to imagine any important improvements. I also have a Kobo Glo and a Kobo Aura and they're nearly as good. Of course the Voyage has far better features and specs but when you're reading those don't really matter. They're all great for reading. I do like the Voyage and use it most but I'd be happy if I was stuck with one of the others. I wouldn't be happy being stuck with an original Kindle. I'd probably go back to a Palm Pilot. ![]() Barry |

The first e-ink reader available outside Japan, the PRS-500, was what started all of this. It was revolutionary, built like a tank, and very, very usable. The follow-up model, the PRS-505, set the benchmark for build quality, which still may not have been equaled, although the Voyage is a very nice device. I was very sad to see Sony disappear from a market that it pioneered. |

Ohhh getting excited now...been waiting on the voyage successor for months after having replaced my previous voyage with a PW3 thinking i'd save some money and didn't really need the page press buttons...but like others have said the screen is definitely not the same despite sharing a 300 ppi screen.
My hopes are a 7-8" screen with mp3/audiobook capability, the i.mx 7 cpu with 1 GB of ram and a decent web browser instead of the awful 'experimental browser' which is basically useless as it crashes on all but the most basic of sites. Perhaps even a youtube app...but that's probably pushing it too far lol |

An actual usable browser on the Kindle E-Ink is very unrealistic.
Video-enabled even more so. For an E-Ink ereader (meant for reading books) you do not need 1GB RAM. Which is why ereaders don't usually come with that much RAM. Without that much RAM, the browser won't fare so well ![]() Video is also a nonstarter because you can't get Flash on mobile devices (well, you can but it sucks). Maybe HTML5 video could be arranged, but that is still -- unfortunately -- not available everywhere. |

I don't think the screen could get much better so the only option will be to increase it's size and hopefully give the voyage more abilities with an upgraded cpu/ram. I'll be buying one regardless ,i was wanting to go back to the voyage after being slightly disappointed in the PW3 contrast, thought i might as well hold off from the next version though seeing as the price is basically the same in the UK as it was at launch! |

I mean i know when you highlight a word on a kindle if you are connected to wifi it automatically brings up wikipedia but many times i need to search other sites for references ect (i'm mainly a non-fiction reader),and although i can tolerate the slow experience of the 'experimental browser' 8 time out of time even if it loads the page it will crash, other ereader's that feature web browsers don't do this and actually function so i think amazon should prioritize this feature, and with the i.mx 7 cpu they could probably have the best ereader based web experience out there. And yeah i kinda said the youtube thing more as a joke, but according to goodereader the i.mx 7 is able to playback video's smoothly ala ipad. Last edited by Jason90; 11-04-2015 at 08:02 PM. |
