I thought it was somehow a Calibre problem but I tried doing a manual reset and opened a Kobo store book – it still does it almost every time it goes out of sleeping mode. After some time it goes away, then starts again. Does this happen to anyone else? I’m desperate at this point as it’s REALLY annoying to the eyes.
This is a known problem triggered by something in the image being displayed. In a discussion with Kobo, it is related to how much power is being drawn at the drawing that image. It trips a low level event and the panel will refresh itself in 4 or 6 quadrants. I don't believe there is anything that can be done as at least part of it seems to be happening at the hardware level.

It is related to what is in the image. The example I have seen is with covers from the publisher Gateway. These can be an all yellow cover with little more than the title and author on it. The conversion to grey scale generated an image with a lot of small grey dots. That triggered the problem. Using calibre to send the cover produced a cover that didn't trigger this.

When reading, the only times I have seen it are with images. And, that is usually the cover. I would expect it to happen with comics with the "right" images. It is probably possible to fix these, but, I don't think I have ever tried.

I produced a cover using calibre (tried different types) but the problem is still there unfortunately.

You can try the new 4.24.15672 firmware and maybe that will fix your problem.

I think to do anything more, we need to see the book. If it is legal to do so, you can upload it here. Or point to a legal link to download it from. You can also use the ScambleBook plugin to produce a safe copy of the book. Though, I don't know how it handles images. Otherwise, put it somewhere and send me a PM with the link.

It won't. Honestly, I think it is as much a hardware limitation as anything. Maybe they can improve the image handling, but, that is probably in Qt or the RMSDK, so there probably isn't much they can do directly. Better CPU or more RAM will probably have more of an effect at this point.

I've never seen this sort of image loading problem. I'll see if I have any eBooks from Gateway or can get such and give it a try.

P.S.I found one eBook with the Gateway yellow cover. I'll load it and give it a try.

It isn't common. I've seen it in at most five books over the years.

Yeah, it didn't solve the problem. I've sent you the book in PM, but I'm starting to think there's some kind of problem with my Kobo itself as it does that even with Kobo store books I've downloaded to try. Weird cause a few month ago I saw the problem as rare as you, just with a few books. Now every book I download does that sooner or later. Thank you for the help!

Ok so i've been experimenting with different covers but the problem's still there –*in the picture you can see how my Kobo refreshes the page – it does not refresh row on a row sometimes and instead goes kinda in-between. Is that some kind of alignment problem?

every time i remove/dismiss a book (only) from the home screen using the latest firmware (4.24.15676) it makes the my books total on the home screen go down by 1. it would be appreciated/nice if this bug could be fixed in the next firmware release.

best wishes koboy

So don't dismiss any eBooks from the home screen until the bug is fixed.

don't assume Kobo know the bug exists. they won't fix what they don't think is broke. it's definitely in firmware 4.23.15548 that's were i first noticed it. who knows how far back this bug goes.

best wishes koboy

You should never assume that a developer knows of any particular bug. If you want a bug fixed, report it to them. At the least, it tells the developer that people actually care about the bug and will help them decide what to do next.

indeed assumptions are rarely wise.

Has anybody else had issue with attempting to turn the page by tapping the screen (I can't really swipe ) instead bringing up the menu over and over again until the Kobo is rebooted?

I have the control setting with the three vertical columns but no matter where I tap on the screen it brings up the menu instead. I noticed it sometimes occurs after I change the font size.

Have you cleaned around the bezel? For the devices with IR touch, like the Aura HD, any dirt or something caught under the bezel can block the IR beams and cause weird touch issues like this.
