The PW1 has a lot of screen issues. The PW2 was better but still not perfect. The PW3 was good and the PW4 a major step backwards from the PW3. The PW5 is also good and a better size (IMHO).

The only ereader I currently have with a flush screen is the Nook Glowlight Plus 2015. But it uses the same 300ppi Carta screen the Paperwhite 3 and 4 and the Kobo Clara HD use.
If I put them side by side, the Glowlight might be slightly fuzzier than the Paperwhite 3 and Clara HD. But it is not glaringly obvious. So I'm wondering if Amazon made some huge mistake on the build quality of the Paperwhite 4 or if the terribleness of the screen is being oversold. If anyone has a 2015 Glowlight Plus and a Paperwhite 4, could you post comparison photos? I promise not to hold you to rigorous scientific standards. |

I've compared PW3 and PW4 side by side. Certainly the PW3 is slightly better, but on its own the PW4 is fine. The terribleness of the screen is being oversold. My son has the PW4 and he upgraded from a K3. The DXG and K3 certainly have better screens than the DX and K2, but there is much smaller changes from Carta (c 10 years ago) I think 2012 to 2013 was the changeover from not too bad Pearl (PW1) to pretty decent Carta (PW2) for Amazon.

There was no reason for Amazon to make the PW4 screen worse then the PW3.

And that YouTube video is probably the only time you've seen Kindle PW4...
