Amazon announces Kindle Oasis

Dunno how it does anything without an OS, and I kind of wonder what takes up so much space...

I'm betting someone messed up in typing up the specs since the screen should ideally be Carta eink or something to that effect, OS should be Android at a minimum, preferably a version number, and I really doubt that there's only 1gb of storage available for books.

Just my 2 cents. I currently use a Nook Simple Touch. I really want a lighted reader and I gave up on BN several years ago. I have been contemplating a Voyage but held off because of the lack of page turn buttons. Now the Oasis is out and I really like the look of it. I was going to buy the leather case for the Voyage anyway so the price difference is only about $30. I've been waiting this long, so I am going to wait to hear the hands on reviews here before I make my decision.

Most ereader say 4 gigs of space K3 adds holds 3500 ebooks ... my PW3 says 1000s but when I got it Before I even started to DL Free space was barely able to hold 3,000 ebooks.. Now this Oasis with 4 gigs holds 1000 That is how I get it must have a huge OS .... Must be ALL tohos Lights!

Like I said, "leather" doesn't mean animal leather anymore, unless cowhide is specified. It's usually PU leather.

Because it doesn't say anywhere that it's not real animal leather, and normally there will be a footnote somewhere that says synthetic or PU or whatever (at least in the UK)

Even the listings on ebay UK for the cheapest of the cheap covers from China have 'leather cover' in the title and 'PU/synthetic leather' in the details.

Amazon's not a UK company, though. Compare their previous ad for a real leather Kindle cover:

That one specifies "genuine leather" and "cowhide". Their Oasis copy says "premium" and "high-quality", but never says that it's genuine, real or cowhide.

The Oasis screen is a new display module created for Amazon with the connector in a different place, and (apparently) with a thinner glass substrate which is also supported to be more robust.

Ah, I see. Well the Oasis doesn't cost the 'same' It's $309.99 or £269.99.

Apple is like Amazon in their US/UK pricing. Once they've set the price, it doesn't change until the product is updated. The iPad mini 2 32GB price was set when there was a better £:$ exchange rate, as was the price of Amazon's Voyage.

Amazon's UK price for the Oasis matches their US price almost exactly. It's just that the £:$ exchange rate is pretty bad at the moment.

I have my Voyage in a gorgeous third party cover. It's a book style (so same style as the Oasis) and it's black with a white printed flower on the front and back, it's black inside (not grey like most are) and it's texture is silky smooth. It weights 264 grms with the Voyage inside. I keep the Voyage in my handbag as use my H20 at home.

As much as I would like the Oasis (and let's be honest here we all would if it was substantially cheaper) I don't feel an weight reduction of 26gms would make much difference to the weight of my handbag or hands when holding the Oasis. I never read without a cover so the reduction in the weight there isn't an issue, and I'm happy with my Voyage screen. No doubt if I ever see one in real life I might change my mind, it all depends how the Oasis screen full of text looks compared to the Voyage, but it would need to be a marked difference for the Oasis to become a worthy successor to the Voyage.

Right now I'm in the market for a new Kobo.

Me too. Excited to see what they come up with but my H2O is perfect. Had to buy it from Canada though in order to get a good one, which is an absolute joke... but my, is it good...

Anywho, I havnt picked up a physical book to read for pleasure in about five years, so not sure how the 'feels like the spine of a real book resting in the palm of your hand!' line is meant to entice me... but it does. :P
