This was my understanding as well. Amazon themselves made it sound very much as if they were not upgrading the HDX 7 this year.

To be fair practically all of the non-US Amazon store pages listed the new basic Kindle (7th gen.) as having a Carta display when it emphatically does not. The US Amazon page was practically the only one that did have it listed correctly. So a blunder is easily within the realm of possibility.

However, the Fire HDX 7 (2013) is completely out of stock right now, all storage sizes, so that is kinda suspicious. Sometimes that means Amazon has something planned, but sometimes it is a database thing... and sometimes it means it is really completely sold out (hard to believe) and sometimes it means absolutely nothing at all.

I can't get any of my amazon books to open in moon+ reader. They are .PRC which upon goggling, I read that they should. Alreader and fb reader will open them all tho.

Just wanted to pass that along to anyone who might care to try those apps with kindle books.

Most likely some sort of database shuffle or something. That would fall under possibilities 2 and 4 in my list!

They made it pretty damn clear that the HDX 7 wasn't going anywhere for now and that they were happy with it as it is.

I'm loving my Fire HD 6!

Sound isn't great from the device's single speaker, but I expected that. It does help to cup your hand behind it when holding. Streaming music does sound very good on my bluetooth speaker. I've watched several videos on the device itself as well as on TV. Picture quality is great!

I have always found it hard to read on LCD screens and e ink always had a more relaxing feel on my eyes. I have been trying to replicate the e ink experience on my hd6 and I have just about perfected it. Obviously, the first thing I did was install a anti-glare screen protector. Last night, I did a Google search for "printable parchment paper images" and found one that looks just like my pw2 screen. As you may have seen in my other posts, I use fbreader, which I got from 1mobile market, and installed the parchment paper as background image in fbreader. I added the CharisSil modified font. The result is great. I no longer use the kindle reader to open my books.

I am really happy with the hd6 now that I have this set up like I want. If the battery would last longer I'd really be set. Lol

I can't wait to try it with Moon+ I have found using a solid color on the KF6 just makes the reflections worse. So I've been reading on my parchment recolor background mostly with Scala Sans that I added a little weight to.

I wonder did you modify the background any? This is what it looks like on my KF6

Nope. I just set it to use that background img and added my font. Just to compare, temporarily install fbreader and see if there is a difference in appearance maybe??
