You'd be best off addressing that question to Microsoft.
For me, it's not only my H2O, it's also my Garmin GPS device that is no longer recognized. I think both use an old driver that wasn't made specifically for Windows 10 (or mabye even Windows 8.1). And MS changed something in the validation check that those drivers now fail.

The Kobo doesn't use its own driver; it uses the standard Windows mass storage device driver.

Maybe it needs one, then?

I thought I'd beat the rush on the update servers tomorrow, so I've just manually downloaded and installed Win10 AU. Took almost exactly 2h from starting the download to completing the upgrade, and everything works fine: printer, Kindle, iPhone and iPad.

I've only noticed one difference so far, which is that when I go to my website's FTP server from Windows Explorer, the site opens in a new instance of Windows Explorer to the one I selected it from, which is slightly weird.

I've just had my laptop rendered unusable while coming out of sleep. Black screen with only a mouse cursor. After hitting some of the common shortcuts the only course of action was to just do a reset, as I couldn't see anything. Never had that before. Maybe I'll need to update the Intel and nVidia display drivers to work correctly with this new Windows version. These drivers are one of the most common cases causing sleep problems on laptops.

I've never had much luck with sleep mode for the reasons you describe. I generally use hibernate rather than sleep if I'm shutting down for a short time. I always do a full shutdown when I finish work for the day.

Normally, I always shut down the computer when I'm not using it. I don't even use hibernate. Sometimes, when I leave for only a short amount of time, I leave the computer on. I normally set it to only blank the screen and suspend the hard drives. As the Anniversary updates reset quite some settings to default, I wouldn't be surprised if it did so for the power management as well. I'll have to run through the most important settings and set them correctly if needed.

Good point. I've just checked my power settings and they don't seem to have changed. I have "Sleep: Never" when on mains power.

Seems you can update to the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition as Updates KB3176934 and KB3176936 (or just one of them) fixes the problem and Kobo Readers can be seen again.

I have given up on trying to install the AU. I must have tried about a dozen times, and it always freezes during "Working on updates". I have tried lots of different suggestions to fix this problem, but nothing has worked. I envy you all with your trouble free updates.

Well, since a few days, I've problems with my laptop. When copying large amounts of data from the internal hard disk to a USB3 disk, it just freezes partially, at some point. The Explorer window hangs, the system gets very slow to react, and basically, nothing works as it should.

Suspecting a hard disk problem, I've run a full checkdisk, and found no problems. It could also be a memory problem. I have had one message like "Error at location 0x...... The memory could not be written." So, I took the two 8GB chips I added myself out, and ran the full diagnostics suite built into the laptop's BIOS (This will take around 8 hours or so, testing everything, from HDD ot memory and so on). As of yet, I haven't found any problems. Lastly, I'll run either the Windows memory check, and/or MemTest86+. If I still don't find anything, I'll run the laptop for some time with 'only' 16GB, installed from the factory. If it then works as it should, I assume that one of the two chips I added has gone bad.

If it still doesn't work as it should, I'll be stumped, as up until now (with the two extra chips removed) every test I run reports no errors.

This has happened to me on PC's & netbooks running Windows 7 and USB2 devices & ports. I find that if I remove the drives linked to the USB ports thus forcing Windows to reinstall the drivers and copy smaller amounts of data the problem occurs less frequently. I also noticed on some occasions it was linked to a specific file type, so I copy these individually. Also, I don't think its specifically related to Explorer as I use Multi Commander to copy data.

I'm inclined to think that the problem is more likely to be with the USB device and/or port than the PC or laptop.

I found a discussion and work-around for this on the Microsoft Windows forum. They suggest putting the computer to sleep, plugging in the Kindle and then waking the computer up. I just tried it and it works for me. Plugging my Kindle in while the laptop is awake gave me the BSD.

It could be that the problem is as described in over there, in the knowledge base.

Quote:
Task Manager might show 100% disk utilization on Windows 10 devices with Message Signaled Interrupt (MSI) mode enabled.
I'm seeing this problem: the hard disk shows 100% disk usage in the task manager, but there is no process accessing the disk anymore. The copy process halts; maybe because of this problem, or it causes this problem.

I've flipped the setting in the registry.

I've never had this problem with Windows 7 or 10 up until now, and I've been using many USB drivers and sticks without problems, copying sometimes hundreds of gigabytes.

Maybe this is caused by the anniversary update.

I have been a windows used since 3.0 or 2.1 I cant recall. And have always been willing to jump ahead and try all the betas and new things. I did skip Vista and I skipped 8 because I didn't like the looks of it but was right out in front for W10.

Many of the W10 Betas crashed and burned horrible deaths but I moved on even trying it on my New to me Mac Book Pro running it in a virtual machine while running a Beta verison of IOS. Playin with fire I tells ya.

So When I heard about W10 Anniversary I was ready to go. Downloaded the update and let it rip...........Bueller.....Bueller....Bueller and like Ferris nobody was home.

Blank screen....OR empty desk chair.

Since my machine is home built I thought maybe something broke. Undid all the drives ..nothing no Bios. Unplugged the PS checked all the connections. re seated the memory.

Nada. Looked over everthing, and went to bare bones using 1 hard drive and the onboard video. Back up

Started plugging it all back together one at a time and restarting untill it was back the way it was and Windows did a few disk checks and 3 hours later I was back to where I started.with no explanation of what really happened.

It almost wants me to just make the full on jump to a Mac Mini.
