I've been anxiously awaiting the Nexus Prime to replace my aging Droid 1. I won't buy a phone that has a locked bootloader and since I tend to keep devices until they no longer function I try to get something close to the top of the heap at the time.

I've had Nokia devices in the past (almost exclusively), and I would consider getting a Nokia in the future when the Windows phones are out. I've really enjoyed my Nokia phones, and I am excited to see what the future Windows phones will be like. |

I recently purchased the Samsung Galaxy S and am extremely pleased. Actually planned on buying the Apple 3G or 4G since I have an iTouch, but liked the Galaxy better and the price was certainly easier on the pocketbook. Was able to find all my favorite Apps, I needed so am happy.
One of my favorite features is being able to carry an extra battery when traveling and quickly switch it out if need be. cheers |

I'm on another planet here. I have an ancient Nokia phone that came over on the Mayflower. I buy minutes as I use them, which may be once every couple of weeks (using, not buying). My phone sucks in signals when other fancy phones fail. I don't have to hold it with my left hand, 2nd and 4th fingers and thumb at a 23½ degree angle to the horizon facing NNW. It just works, cost $29 and no monthly fee. What's not to like?

Here is a partial chart. A lot of people didn't pay attention to the market until Apple jumped in. But Apple is a latecomer that didn't get into the game until capacitive screens came along. |

I'm finally looking to take the plunge into "smartphone" ownership and am currently trying to decide between the iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy S II X so this discussion comes at a great time.
I'm neither an Apple "fanboy" or an Android "droid-roid", but consider myself an informed consumer who sees pros and cons with both devices. I have an asus tablet which is now my primary e-reader but also have use of an iPod touch and iPad (when I can pry from my wife's grip). I like Android but have yet to be overly impressed by the quality of apps I like to use (BBC, weather, other news). I also don't believe Android to be a true "open source" platform as Google has clamped down pretty hard on versions 3 and the upcoming 4.x and I don't think there is as much of a cowboy mentality with regards to development as there used to be. I also find that with Android you become used to the idea that your OS will quickly be out of favour and the next great thing will be on the horizon. That said, I look forward to the upcoming Android 4.x as I think having a common OS between phones/tablets will be an incentive to developers to start working on better quality apps. One of the reasons I like the iPad and iPhone IS the app store. As I've stated before, one of the things I admire about apple is the vetting process they have for apps. It may be considered a "walled garden" but maintaining tight control over what gets approved/tested makes for a more satisfactory user experince for the majority of users. That said, sometimes it's nice to "tinker" with things and push the envelope a little. Decision, decisions... |

IOS (Iphone) - Not a chance. I wouldn't purchase an Apple product for any reason.
Android - Very likely my next phone. BlackBerry - Zero chance. I have been using a Blackberry in a corp environment, they are an absolute joke. Windows Phone - wanted one really bad but they failed to properly support SDHC cards, no sale. |
