I personally like the Voyage for the way it makes the text appear almost printed on top of the screen, there's nothing in the specs for this (I think it's the glass screen compared to others using a plastic screen). I do see the slight light gradient with the light low at night, but that is the only negative I can find with it. Whether that's worth paying the extra money over a PW3 or Glo HD is completely subjective.

Stats don't tell you everything though, if you can have a look at any of them instore, it's worth doing so. Take your Glo with you and compare them. I wouldn't completely discount the Kobo Aura 2 either, sure its stats don't compare well with the Glo HD, but there's no feedback on how it looks yet, and just because it doesn't have the same PPI, it doesn't mean it will look awful.

The difference between a Pearl screen and Carta is that the latter has better contrast between the blacker text and lighter background than a Pearl screen, and it gives smoother page turns (quicker and smoother to refresh). How noticeable it is probably depends on how good your eyesight is though.

One thing to consider, you mention borrowing library books, isn't it only in the US that you can borrow library books for your Kindle, AFAIK Canada is like the UK in this respect, you need an epub ereader for library books?
Can i ask what were those serions flaws on the original aura? That made you say no to it.

I was under the impression I could still do it but would have to do some tinkering... I'm unsure if this is a big thing or not... Hopefully I wouldn't get sick of doing this each time since I do side load a lot of books already.

Not serious flaws, but the things I didn't like about the Aura screen were, it's darker, and I could sometimes see some etching/scratches on parts of the screen (I think this is related to the light guide). Both these were minor and and it still looked a lovely little reader.

However, the killer for me was there was a bright line along the top and consequently a dark line underneath it right along the top of the screen. My eyes were just drawn to it all the time (not noticeable in daylight from what I remember).

I've found an image that shows the line (and if that doesn't bother you, you can see that while it's not the greatest picture and I've no idea of the light settings on either, the screen doesn't look awful).

I currently use a Kobo Aura HD (the 6.8"), Kobo Glo HD, Kobo Mini, and Kindle Voyage. Also have a Kobo Glo. I did own a Kobo Aura (broke the screen) and have owned Paperwhite 1 & 2.

Of these, the Kobo Glo HD and the Kindle Voyage have the best screens. I wouldn't go back to the Paperwhite or the Kobo Aura. They are both inferior to what I have now.

Loved the size of the Aura, but the screen is not as good. Love the size of the Mini, but it's not lighted, so I normally use it in summer only. Love the size of the Aura HD, but the screen is not as good.

Both the Glo HD and the Voyage screens are wonderful.

I have the original Aura and all three Paperwhites and a Voyage and there's no question that the Kindles have better screens than the Aura. I used to have a Kobo Glo and it had a better screen than the Aura, and better even than the original Paperwhite. The Aura screen, at least mine, is a bit splochy and uneven and the contrast isn't quite as good as the others.

I'm reading currently with my Aura and when I'm reading I don't notice any of that. I just read.

The thing is these are all great ereaders. Some are better than others. None are less than excellent.

I'd say really watch for deals. They had a good trade-in values for older Kindles plus a coupon for EACH and all could be applied to one Voyage. So I paid just under $100 for mine. Yes, I gave up the older units, but since other family members wanted tablets and not ereaders and the batteries were close to needing replacements, no point in keeping them. I kept one 3G Kindle keyboard for the 3G for when I'm caring for a relative, but alas, that Kindle doesn't always turn on now.
