Problem with Calibre Companion and Moon + Reader Pro

This just to confuse more. With the same setup , now cc offers moon+ but only for this particular book.

If you show the book details without the pop-up in the way we can view the exact path where the book is located.

this has been my cc folder since I installed cc. So that should not have caused the issue. And now with the same folder it is working fine (the version provided by chaley) and all three chm readers including moon+ shows up for only few chms and for rest it shows the other two but not moon.

The directory you show - /storage/extSdCard/Calibre companion

is not the CC KitKat special external directory CC created for me. Mine is
/storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.multipie.calibreandroid/files/

yes. thats what I am saying. when I had the problem of not being able to open chm files I was on the cc kitkat sd card special folder or something you mentioned. when I was in the same folder @chaley provided a different version and that worked to open chm directly but moon+ showed for only some chms.

later I moved my library the current folder ie extsdcard/calibre companion. cc works fine now also. moon reader shows up for only some chm files here too. whereas the other two readers show up every time and everywhere and for every chm.

I am ok with whats happening. only wish pdb files opened with isilo directly from cc.

and more over my library data is safe now. it wont get deleted on uninstalling cc (if its in the folder suggested by cc for sd card android/data.... something, library is deleted on uninstalling cc). now I dont have that risk.

books remain on the sd card custom folder where I save my cc library on uninstalling the app. once I reinstall cc and point to that folder save library, the books dont show up in cc. When I connect to calibre on pc wirelessly, it resends all those books to that folder again. I have a lot of books and it might take hours to transfer. Isn't there a way to just get book meta data from calibre as books are already on phone?

Looking at the details for this book and the other one that doesn't work, I note that the non-working one has a period in the title and thus the file name. The working one has no period in the file name.

Is this generally true? That files with no periods in the name offer moon+ as an option, but files with periods in the name do not? If so, I think I understand some of what might be happening.

I just bought a Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 4, stock Android 4.4.2 (no rooting/hacking of any kind).

In CC I defined all books of type chm (and pdf, djvu, cbz) to be stored in the 'CC KitKat special' external SD card directory. The chms show the 'no app' popup when trying to read. After changing the chm folder to one in standard main memory, I'm now offered Moon+ or CoolReader and all works as expected.

On my non-KitKat Galaxy Note3 (android 4.3), sending chms to any old directory on the external SD card works fine.

No. The metadata in the books is usually bad, almost never complete, and usually difficult to get to. That is why CC stores the metadata in its database. When its database is deleted, CC must ask calibre for the metadata. There is no way for CC to know which book goes with which calibre database entry.

In your case, since none of the books are epub, it would probably be faster not to scan for missing books (turn off the CC scan-for-missing-books setting) and resend the books.

Good news.

After several installs uinstalls wipes cleanups reinstalls of all the related apps, EVERY ASPECT OF THE APP WORKS PERFECTLY.
1. I am saving books on custom folder on sd card. (Not on phone memory or the folder suggested by cc to store on sd card)
2. Moon+ and all other chm readers show up for every chm file.
3. Pdb files open directly with isilo
4. All this with V3.3.5c
