Case could still crack even if screen not broken. That is why good case is very very important.

there has never been a case of cracked case without the display being broken on an eink device. even if it were the case being cracked doesnt stop the device from working. the display being cracked DOES.
![]() if all it does is eliminate the above then its an incredible boon for the companies and the consumers |

I just want something like in Minority Report. The size of a large pen, that rolls out to a semi-rigid 6in display.
Now that would be awesome! |

Readius Not quite "a large pen", more a mobile phone, but it's close. And no longer under development. [EDIT: It is still under development, as is pointed out later in this thread. Whoops!] Last edited by pdurrant; 03-30-2012 at 01:37 AM. Reason: Whoops - didn't fact check before posting. |

Now that's exactly the kind of device I'm not interested in.
It may be great for putting in a pocket but so is the PB360 as the cover is the only thing I worry about. Otherwise this foldable thing just looks like a bother to read on. |

yes. but point taken. thats after they started using that new frame sub assembly and showing themselves doing drop tests. so it certainly is possible with certain devices.

Just to prove I'm not such a Ludditean old git, I think this is a marvellous new step forward - assuming it makes it to the market of course.
It would make sense of all those ambitious plans for readers for schools, poor countries, etc... IF it's as durable as the pic would have us believe ! Then it'll be another reader to find an excuse for buying, once the inevitable bugs are sorted.. Unless the usual thing happens, and the opening price is astronomical.... ![]() ( And I wonder if the warranty will exclude antics like that portrayed... ![]() |

Nevertheless, a less fragile screen is a very good improvement. It would at least save me some worry. |

One step forward : since my old Chinese reader fell, a few lines were permanently stuck, which would not have happened with this new technology.
Two steps backward : compared to the white of the shirt-sleeve of the guy holding it, this screen looks dark grey. In the video on Nate's site, it looks clearer, but the ambient light is very strong and very white (daylight bulbs). |
