I've seen the website being verry slow recently. More likley it finally crashed down, or was shut down for maintenance. |

Hi guys,
This is my first post here. I got Cybook gen3 recently - and I read this thread about waiting for a new version of firmware. Perhaps this can be interesting what I just found. I just read that a polish 'Amazon' like company (Kolporter) plans to start selling ebooks in its store as well as a dedicated eBook reader device. Looking at specs of this device that was briefly announced, I bet this is Cybook they have on minds: same dimensions and weight: "118 x 188 x 8,5 mm, wraz z baterią waży tylko 174 g" So - perhaps we are waiting so long because of this deal - Cybook is implementing neccessary changes? I know this dedicated device is supposed to read ePub formatted books. Here is a link to full text if anyone can read polish: 118 x 188 x 8,5 mm, wraz z baterią waży tylko 174 g Hope this helps a bit :-) |

I would rather argue that while they were focusing on Weltbild they stopped working on the FW for the rest of us entirely. Now they are working on Opus so they won't have time for anything else. Let's hope they stop developing new devices one day because then they will finally have the time to release "our" firmware. No, wait, if they do that they would go under rather soon and wouldn't release anything anymore... So, it seems we are out of luck ![]() |

Additional information from the page: it'll be able to read DRMed ePub, and non-DRMed PDF, TXT, HTML. Up to 400 books will fit in its internal memory, and it'll have SD slot handling SD card up to 4GB. It'll also be able to show black-and-white photos, and play mp3.
What other Netronix devices handle DRM ePub, and non-DRM PDF, HTML and TXT? |

One day, soon, a Cybook Gen3 running the latest firmware (or nidge nudge, an Inkpot alternative)......
As increasingly it seems that as the US restricts the sale of some mobi ebooks, it becomes more urgent for the firmware on the Cybook to include ePub as an option, otherwise I have to seriously change my reading habits ..... |

(Except that the Weltbild firmware doesn't *actually* support those formats *yet*) Last edited by Snuffi; 05-28-2009 at 09:45 AM. Reason: gerraldo is right :-) |

And the photos are not necessary in black and white, they can be in any number of color you waht. It's only during the display process that only 4 shades of gray are used
