It works!!! I’m super excited. It will be much more simple than having to do it via my computer. Thanks everyone for the help. The issue was that I wasn’t on the most recent iOS!

Is that using your iPad 7th generation? It doesn’t work with my 6th generation one, sadly, even though I’m running iOS 13.3 and using the Apple link cable. |

Hi everyone,
Glad to see a resolution to this problem. May I ask whether you’re all talking about DRM protected ebooks here? I’m new to e-readers and would also like to just use my iPad Pro if I was to buy a Kobo Clara HD. Since Kobos can read Adobe DRM epubs, does anyone know if I could download them to my iPad, plug the Kobo into the iPad and transfer via iOS Files app? Thanks |

As for connecting your Kobo to your iPad to transfer eBooks, that will not work. |

@cormaca: It might work. I just tried copying a book from the ADE directory on the PC to my Adobe authorised device, and I was able to read it. That at least means you do not need to use ADE to put the DRM protected book on the device. It will depend on whether the app used on the iPad will download books in the DRMed books in the same way, and whether you can copy them to the device. I can't test this. My iPad is fairly old and I don't have a way to connect the ereader to it. And my Android phone doesn't support OTG, so I can't try on that. |

Quick testing update: I bought a drm protected book from ebooks.com and when you click download you get the .acsm file. I have Bluefire reader on my iPad, so opening the acsm file in downloads opens the book in Bluefire reader (which is authorised with my Adobe account). You can read it in the Bluefire app or using the share action save the .ePub file to iCloud. It remains to be seen whether it will be enough to just transfer this file then to a Kobo.

Again if anyone’s interested, this from Bluefire iOS documentation: ‘when you have authorised Bluefire Reader, you can read ebooks that have been copy-protected with Adobe DRM. You can also transfer ebooks that have been downloaded to other readers.’
My guess is that the key bit is turning the acsm file into the ePub file. An app that can read Adobe ebooks is needed for the first step and then that ePub is authorised to be read by any device that is also connected to that Adobe account (up to the standard 6). |

Is there no way to transfer a book to Kobo ereader wirelessly on iOS like there is on Android? On Android can transfer wirelessly via FTP app to the Kobo browser. And book just shows up in My Books.
I would like to do the same wirelessly thing on my iPad that I do with my Android phone. |

I posted earlier in this thread about the problems I was having transferring ebooks from my iPad to my Kobo Aura One. I still can’t do this by plugging my Kobo directly into the USB port of my iPad (2020 version) but I can do it wirelessly using Goodreader. This didn’t work for me when I first tried it with an earlier iPad but it does now and it’s transformed the ease with which I can juggle ebooks between devices. For anyone wondering, GoodReader comes in two versions: the basic app for a one time payment (£3.99 when I bought it) or an advanced version which is subscription based. I’ve owned the basic version for years and it is the mainstay of my iPad file system (including a folder containing all my ebooks). I would be lost without it! |

Plugging Kobo into iPad Pro does work and you can copy and paste drm-free and drm-protected epubs to the device. Copying them into the top directory seems to work fine, though digital editions on Mac creates a Digital Editions folder. Only issue is that iPad OS cannot safely eject devices. So second time I tried this I did what I did before: left Files app running for a few minutes after transfer, force closed the app, then unplugged. This time however the Kobo was frozen on USB connect screen. Apple needs to introduce a way to kick the Kobo or whatever device into its own disconnected state and then this would work really smoothly. Have given up plugging it in because Kobo required a factory restore.
