Thank you! I will give that a try. I presume this is the post of interest in that huge thread:

I just have two quick questions:

1) kobo_extra.css should be placed in the root / of the device, correct? Not in the .kobo...

2) When I send a book with Calibre, it will still have the .epub extension? I did notice that diff says that the file on device in Calibre and Aura are different so I'm guessing it worked. Plus the Kobo reader reports it as "Kobo Epub" in list view so I'm guessing all is working!

It's amazing how much better the kepub is from epub! Oh, and the arrow is showing up perfectly in all of the fonts I tried.

Should I also sideload Arial Unicode just so it can be used for some weird character?

Duly noted. Will give it a try but will double check things for weird side-effects.

For a book to be recognised as a kepub on the device, the extension has to be ".kepub.epub". The drivers in calibre will handle the renaming during the send.

There are probably as many problems with epub as there are with kepubs. It's a matter of choosing your favourite. I do a mix. Mainly epub if I'm sideloading, but for picture or footnote heavy books, I sideload as kepub.

That will have to be up to you. I was going to skip that step myself, but then someone on another forum asked me if I could make Kobo support books with some Georgian Characters, so Arial Unicode ended up being my solution to that. (Note that Arial Unicode is not the same thing as basic "Arial" that comes with windows. Alas, it's not a free to distribute font, so I can't link here.)

But aside from the really off the reservation stuff, the glyphs kobo supports on it's own are pretty extensive.
