People who own and have reviewed the book complain that there are hardly any pictures in it. And, as I already said, I am only interested in the words. I have enough imagination to realise what the finished dish will look like.
BTW it is not just a cookery book - I already have enough of them in ebbook formats. It's about the relationship between what we eat and what effect that has on our bodies.
I'm not cutting my nose off .... There are plenty of publishers of ebooks nowadays. I will choose to use the others in future.

It is of course your choice. I buy at many different bookstores; I think personally that Amazon offer the best choice, and often the best prices, too.

I agree that Amazon are often very competitive on price but their daily deal feature is designed to keep you locked into their market. I have found that I tend to buy far more books if I use Amazon and I already have a backlog (like many others here), some of which I will probably not read, if I am strictly realistic.

Its strange its supported on a paperwhite and not on previous kindles. Dont they support the same format?

Alternatively find an epub version.

How is it designed to keep you "locked in" to their market?

Just like any kind of deal, its a tool a seller uses to encourage you to buy their product!?!

Just as the Kobo codes are designed to keep you locked into Kobo's market? It's doubtful that any MR participants are locked into any market.

Most people don't remove DRM - they just buy books from whoever sells them through their e-reader. The Daily Deal is designed to make people feel like buying a Kindle is more cost-effective than buying a different e-reader because of deals the Kindle store has that other stores don't have. That's all. Perception of value.

For people who have a life (as opposed to a reading life) these marketing tricks do tend to keep them locked in, because they're just too busy to find a way round these marketing ploys.

And whose fault is that? People who give up personal responsibility for ease of whatever have no right to complain, about ANYTHING related to the giving up of that responsibility.

So to recap: why bother to think of a constructive criticism when a cheap sarcastic quip is all you can manage.

It seems to me that someone 'with a life' would be a person who just buys the book they want to read, regardless of whether they could save a few pence elsewhere.

Why would someone as busy as you suggest use their valuable time to read the daily deals, and restrict their limited reading time to just the books that turn up in the offers?

The value of the daily deals (to authors) is a proven fact; sales go way up and stay up for days and weeks after the price reverts. That argues that the visibility provided by the listing is important and that Amazon's criteria for choosing which titles to promote tend to flag good reads. The latter probably explains the former.
