BTW it is not just a cookery book - I already have enough of them in ebbook formats. It's about the relationship between what we eat and what effect that has on our bodies. I'm not cutting my nose off .... There are plenty of publishers of ebooks nowadays. I will choose to use the others in future. |

It is of course your choice. I buy at many different bookstores; I think personally that Amazon offer the best choice, and often the best prices, too.

I agree that Amazon are often very competitive on price but their daily deal feature is designed to keep you locked into their market. I have found that I tend to buy far more books if I use Amazon and I already have a backlog (like many others here), some of which I will probably not read, if I am strictly realistic.

So to recap: not "new" at all, and not a "trick."

Just as the Kobo codes are designed to keep you locked into Kobo's market? It's doubtful that any MR participants are locked into any market.

For people who have a life (as opposed to a reading life) these marketing tricks do tend to keep them locked in, because they're just too busy to find a way round these marketing ploys.

And whose fault is that? People who give up personal responsibility for ease of whatever have no right to complain, about ANYTHING related to the giving up of that responsibility.

Why would someone as busy as you suggest use their valuable time to read the daily deals, and restrict their limited reading time to just the books that turn up in the offers? Graham |

The value of the daily deals (to authors) is a proven fact; sales go way up and stay up for days and weeks after the price reverts. That argues that the visibility provided by the listing is important and that Amazon's criteria for choosing which titles to promote tend to flag good reads. The latter probably explains the former.
