Gee, 45 seconds (which as noted on the comparison matrix) is darn bad an really messes with the spur-of-the-moment use that is so nice on the Kindle. I note the Iliad Volume 2 which is now shipping has an improved battery. How much better? Dunno.

Oddly he seems to think the Kindle software is superior.
I don't know if this would be legal in Amsterdam, but mobidedrm converts AZW ebooks to DRM-free MOBI's that are readable on the iLiad.

The Kindle's software is superior. I second Kingston's post (#9 above) in this regard. The iLiad has the advantage of being open to 3rd party software, but iRex does not have the resources that Amazon does and it shows in the level of refinement in the underlying software.

All in all, I think I will try to get Amazon to repair my busted Kindle. Failing that, I shall reconsider my options.

I have both and if you want to simply read then get the Kindle. Amazon offers a large amount of paid content that is easily downloaded to the Kindle via Whispernet. The Iliad has a ton of unrealized potential and I've personally found it very difficult to run third party applications. If you need to take notes and read non DRMed PDFs get the Iliad.
