updated cover
I'm going to be lowering the lock so there won't be all that open space between it and my name. All feedback and suggestions welcome. Thanks!
[mod: another missing image. http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/9c4b/ghqo18vjc3bydxafg.jpg] P.S. Thanks Russell for the heads-up on the font. Last edited by pdurrant; 05-19-2013 at 06:55 AM. |

new update image for ebook cover
Sorry it seems my image has absconded. Here's the new image as an attachment. And the lock is going to be lowered so the excessive space between the lock and my name will not be an issue, and the business below my first name will be gone, as well. Thanks for any and all feedback and suggestions.

The lock is obviously an add-on to this version of the image - presumably because you still intend to move it (though that may end up with issues with the door handles). I'm not really convinced that the embossed head (is that fingers I see down lower?) is a great addition, I liked the simplicity of the original image. Then again, there is a school of thought that faces/people on the cover a good thing for books being marketed in the U.S. The font is definitely a better choice than before, I still feel as if the author name is overly large/bold - but then I'm lousy at marketing, so what do I know.

two new versions of ebook cover--feedback anyone?
Here's the latest two. And my blurb (feel free to skip it) just so you know what the novel is about. Thanks!
Jamie Thompson is the perfect person. Her CEO father has made sure of that. She has the perfect manners, a perfect tennis backhand and a perfect life. Her father has groomed her to take the helm of the family company when she graduates college in a year. Jamie has a silver spoon in her mouth—and she’s gagging on it. She has to get away. She’s come up with the perfect plan. A friend in a west Texas border town has lined up an accounting job for her, but when Jamie gets there the job has fallen through. But there’s a waitress position open at a bar and grill. The one thing Jamie knows is she isn’t going back to her father, and so, broke, sixteen hundred miles from home and alone for the first time in her life, she goes for it. What she finds is a world of gun-toting cowboys, Mexican drug gangs, the occult and that there’s been a string of brutal rapes and murders. And Ricky Benson, a flame-throwing baseball pitcher, fallen from grace, who she falls head over heels in love with. But the violence escalates. A fellow waitress is murdered, and Jamie feels like she might be next. Then Ricky Benson is accused of murder. Jamie can make one phone call and her father will send the company jet for her—or she can stay and face the life that confronts her and fight for the man she loves. ![]() ![]() |

My opinion, and it is only that, is that the top background image (plain) is better (it took me a while to even work out what it was you added to the second), but I like font choices of the second a little better. I'm guessing you don't like to see too much unused space on your cover
![]() The thing I find strange is that I was going to suggest that the bright blue shadow on your previous example was too bright, but in comparison with these latest two covers that brighter shadow did lift the overall image considerably. These second two look a little dark, though perhaps that suits the mood of the story better? |

I agree that the top image is better (I still haven't worked out what it is that is added to the second image). I'm undecided which font I prefer, though, and I think I like it better without the blue shadow.

I wonder what the image has to do with the title. Even the blurb as it now stands doesn't give any clues that explain a padlocked door. Something like a waitresses' memo pad and a gun in front of a western scene would make more sense to me.

Thanks guys. If the boot is that hard to see what's it going to look like in a thumbnail. No, the boot is booted out!

I like the latest font with the black drop shadow. The combination of changes to the text has cleaned up that "home computer smell" I was getting off the first version.
I like the image without the face or the boot. While I'm not sure what it has to do with the story, I decided it was a seedy storage unit where Jamie may or may not find something bad her new love is hiding. If I hadn't read the blurb, I may have assumed Jamie was 'gambling' on what was inside. Last edited by ApK; 05-21-2013 at 11:52 PM. |
