I'm disappointed it weighs only 8% less than the k3. 212 grams. You probably can't even tell the difference without having both in hands. The new Sony by comparison is 168 grams.

Hmm, what to do. I wonder how much I can get for my k3 now.

I feel the same way. Do I get a T1 or a KT. The weight issue is one to consider. If I do get a KT it will be $99 I think.

I do know I am getting the Kindle Fire! Wow it's only $10 more then Pandigital Nova I had on my Christmas list.

The Kindle Touch looks like a great unit; actually, I'm impressed by all of Amazon's announcements and pricing..............!

You don't have to actually touch the screen to use it, just break the IR beam. Of course, it is probably impossible to avoid touching the screen, but no pressure is needed.

This might seem silly, but does anyone know if this new model will show book covers on the home screen instead of just list mode? Sony, Kobo, and Nook all have this option and I've been hoping that Amazon would one day, too. I love being able to see my book covers - I'm more likely to remember a cover than I am a title, so I personally would find it useful.

In the video, it's only text. It only shows covers when browsing the store.

Yeah I got mixed up thinking it was the new home screen at first.

Ah well I still can see the covers easier now no more trying to hit the right arrow and not back button! Back button be gone!

Yeah, I was disappointed that book covers still can't be displayed on the home screen. It's been said that you can't store book covers in .mobi books like you can with .epub books, so that's the reason the Kindle can't show book covers in your library. Bummer forever.

A mobi can't open to its cover... because the cover is part of the metadata. So it can't open to the cover any more than it can open to the author or the language. The creator of the mobi can easily insert the cover into the text of the ebook and have it open to that, though.

There's no reason I know of that the Kindle software couldn't be modified to show a thumbnail of the cover on the home page... or to even have a cover browser. They haven't done it, but there's no limitation of the .mobi format stopping them.

The Kindle for Touchpad app can show books by list or by cover and I bet the Kindle Fire can as well. Don't know about the Kindle for microsoft, ios, or Android.

As to the new e-ink devices, a lot of covers are probably hard to recognize and don't look good as gray scale thumbnails.

The Android app does show covers on the home page.

Bummer forever, indeed.

I thought with the Kindle Cloud Reader being so nice about book covers that maybe the new Kindle would implement something similar in e-ink for the home screen. This is just a preference, but it is something that the other touchscreen readers do (of course, those are predominantly epub readers) and it seems that Kindle is a bit behind in that regard for me.

The Kindle for Android, Kindle for PC, and Kindle Cloud Reader all allow you to browse by title/author while showing the book covers.
