I'm disappointed it weighs only 8% less than the k3. 212 grams. You probably can't even tell the difference without having both in hands. The new Sony by comparison is 168 grams. Hmm, what to do. I wonder how much I can get for my k3 now. |

The weight issue is one to consider. If I do get a KT it will be $99 I think. I do know I am getting the Kindle Fire! Wow it's only $10 more then Pandigital Nova I had on my Christmas list.

The Kindle Touch looks like a great unit; actually, I'm impressed by all of Amazon's announcements and pricing..............!

You don't have to actually touch the screen to use it, just break the IR beam. Of course, it is probably impossible to avoid touching the screen, but no pressure is needed.

This might seem silly, but does anyone know if this new model will show book covers on the home screen instead of just list mode? Sony, Kobo, and Nook all have this option and I've been hoping that Amazon would one day, too. I love being able to see my book covers - I'm more likely to remember a cover than I am a title, so I personally would find it useful.

There's no reason I know of that the Kindle software couldn't be modified to show a thumbnail of the cover on the home page... or to even have a cover browser. They haven't done it, but there's no limitation of the .mobi format stopping them. Last edited by DiapDealer; 09-28-2011 at 08:34 PM.

As to the new e-ink devices, a lot of covers are probably hard to recognize and don't look good as gray scale thumbnails.

I thought with the Kindle Cloud Reader being so nice about book covers that maybe the new Kindle would implement something similar in e-ink for the home screen. This is just a preference, but it is something that the other touchscreen readers do (of course, those are predominantly epub readers) and it seems that Kindle is a bit behind in that regard for me.
