KYBunnies: congratulations! Best of wishes for a bright future.

xstitchfan: Using Calibre to side load your books is very useful. With the right settings, you can have your books showing the series info, which is something I really need. Also, you can make a special column in Calibre to notate which books you have loaded to your Nook. Then should you need to reload, you know exactly what to send.

hannahi: I tried Oyster yesterday, and immediately unsubscribed. (I wrote about it in the Scribd thread here in the Deals forum). I found it harder to search, and the text display was atrocious. From what little I could see, they did NOT have the romance selection that Scribd has.

Midsummer Night by Deanna Raybourn is currently Free.

Print Length: 56 pages
Publisher: Harlequin MIRA

Quote:
Readers everywhere have fallen for New York Times bestselling author Deanna Raybourn's intrepid amateur sleuth and socialite, Lady Julia Grey. Not to mention her devastatingly handsome partner in crime, Nicholas Brisbane. Midsummer Night is the long awaited novella of their wedding, a dashing—and potentially deadly—affair not to be missed…

Midsummer in Victorian England—an auspicious time for a wedding. Brisbane has taken charge of the music. Julia has, perhaps mistakenly, allowed her sisters to choose the dress. And Belmont Abbey is overflowing with guests awaiting the blessed day. What could go wrong?

Combine the close-knit chaos of village life, pagan traditions bursting through staid Victorian conventions, and the congenial madness that tends to swirl around Lady Julia's family and you get an unforgettable wedding. But add in a dangerous past nemesis who has come to wish them not-so-well, and their day to remember just might take a fatal turn…

Don't miss a single tale in the Lady Julia Grey series—or Deanna Raybourn's latest stand alone novel, A SPEAR OF SUMMER GRASS.

Twelfth Night (A Lady Julia Mystery)Deanna Raybourn is currently Free.

Print Length: 51 pages
Publisher: Harlequin MIRA

Quote:
New York Times bestselling author Deanna Raybourn returns with a brand-new novella, starring her beloved heroine, the intrepid Lady Julia Grey

To mark the passing of another decade, the esteemed—and eccentric—March family have assembled at Bellmont Abbey to perform the Twelfth Night Revels for their sleepy English village. But before Lady Julia and her handsome, sleuthing husband, Nicolas Brisbane, can take to the stage, a ruckus in the stable yard demands their attention. An abandoned infant is found nestled in the steel helm of St. George. What's more, their only lead is the local legend of a haunted cottage and its ghastly inhabitant—who seems to have returned.

Once again, Lady Julia and Nicholas take up the challenge to investigate, and when the source of the mystery is revealed, they'll be faced with an impossible choice—one that will alter the course of their lives…forever.

Don't miss a single tale in the Lady Julia Grey series—or Deanna Raybourn's latest novel, City of Jasmine.

There are missing jewels, new faces at the Abbey, and a prowling ghost that brings back unwelcome memories from a previous holiday—one that turned deadly. Is a new culprit recreating crimes of the past? And will Brisbane let Julia investigate—?

4 stars coming from you is pretty big. I've heard of the author but haven't read any of her books yet. Thanks for the recommendation. The price on Kobo is not lowered (yet?), but I managed to grab a 75% code from the other thread and used it.

The contest did help, and I took a long, hard look at the ones I had in my to-buy-list and pushed most of them to a to-buy-later list. LOL However, I only bought 7, so do I get a cookie or something?

I'll probably try out new authors if the overall reviews are not bad, or if some of you here highly recommend it.
Oh, agreed. I can't totally give up trying new authors, but I'm being WAY more selective than I used to be. I'm not just hitting buy when the price drops, and I'm waiting for a ton of reviews and also previewing the book first. This has saved me a lot in the past few months.

By the way, have you gotten your copy of Fall From India Place? I've just got mine this morning. But I haven't decided when to read it yet. There's another rather pricey book coming out next week that I really want as well (K.A. Tucker's Five Ways To Fall); hopefully the code will still be valid by then.
I moved Fall From India Place to my buy-later list, but I may just buy it with 1 code I have saved for a couple of new releases on Tuesday. One of the 7 I just bought was the new Jay Crownover book and that's next on my reading list.
And isn't that strange, you mentioned K.A. Tucker , that is 1 author I just last week put on my wishlist! Now that you've recommended it I will have to move it up from low to medium priority.
See, proof right there I'll never have enough room in my to-buy list!

I just hope I didn't get it mixed up with another MMA book. I went through a phase and read a bunch of MMA books in a row. I definitely did rate this one a 4, but I don't remember the exact story.

In the Romance Readers Reading Challenges GR group I am in there is one challenge where you create a shelf of books you want to read and then everyone else who is participating in the challenge picks books from that list for you to read... so I created a shelf of series that I had started but not gotten around to finishing. The point of the challenge is to read the list 'picked' for you over the next 2 months (about 18 books). It's great incentive! When this one is done, my list will be series I've never started that have been sitting in my TBR the longest.

I know I've mentioned it before but I have to say it again...I love this group on GR. There are lots and lots of different types of challenges and the thing I most enjoy is searching my library to find books that meet some of the categories of the challenges. This has helped me get to know what's in my library (around 3,000 books) believe it or not. It also gives me incentive to actually READ them
It's nice to know I'm not alone! Sounds like we're both finding ways to tackle that TBR pile, which is great. I'm glad the GR thing is working out for you.
I'm just so excited right now to get back to reading my favorite authors again, feels like reconnecting with an old friend. I got so caught up in the cycle of trying to stay caught up in my new authors TBR pile and to stay on top of their new releases.

And sorry for bringing up replies from a couple days ago, this week has been super busy and somehow I missed a couple pages of replies.

Oh, definitely. You're definitely better than me; I've bought more than 10 books since the contest started.

Yes, I've also bought the new Jay Crownover book. Again, I haven't decided when to read it yet.

Oh..you haven't read K.A. Tucker's books before? I thought Ten Tiny Breaths is a rather popular NA read. Well, I'm okay with the first two books in the series, i.e. Ten Tiny Breaths and One Tiny Lie, but I think there's too much angst for my taste. However, I absolutely adore the third book, Four Seconds to Lose. I like that it has some elements of suspense in it. I hope Five Ways to Fall won't disappoint either.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I've been playing with the Oyster app on my phone and Kindle Fire a little. The text flow is weird as you've noticed, but i find that the page turns are smoother and easier on my phone compared to Scribd. I like the clean design of the Oyster site and app even though it's a little harder to navigate than Scribd (for instance no search function on the website though I've used a custom google search of the domain to look for specific titles and authors). So I'll still have to decide which service to choose in a month when both trials are done.

Embattled Hearts (Lost and Found #1) by J.M. Madden
Kindle | Kobo

Quote:
John Palmer hasn’t felt like a real man since he was injured during combat in Iraq. Though not content with his new life, he is mostly adapting, just like the other vets at the Lost ‘N’ Found Investigative Service. When Shannon Murphy is hired on as the new office manager, life suddenly gets a lot more interesting. Before long, John finds himself wondering if he could ever be the kind of man Shannon needs.
Shannon Murphy wasn’t really looking for love when she hired on at LNF, but finds herself hopelessly attracted to the sex-on-wheels former Marine, John Palmer. The man is grumpy and nearly impossible to work with, but his brand of masculinity appeals to her on a basic level. Soon Shannon is wondering just what it would take for John to want her the way she wants him.
When an old enemy tries to settle a vendetta against Shannon, John insists on protecting her. He moves into her house, fanning the spark of attraction into a blaze. But the danger continues to escalate. Will the connection that they’ve found survive when they’re thrust into a fight for their lives?

The Rogue (Rogues of Ravensmuir #1) by Claire Delacroix (Grand Central 2002)
Kindle | Kobo

Quote:
Dear Reader:

Seductive and mysterious, Merlyn was the laird of Ravensmuir — never had a man so stirred my body and soul. I gave myself to him — willingly, trustingly, passionately — and we soon wed. Then a horrible revelation emerged, shattering my innocence and my marriage...

Five years later, Merlyn returned to my doorstep, desperate for my help. The scoundrel swore he was haunted by memories of me, that a treasure locked in Ravensmuir could clear his name. Yet I could not surrender to his will again. Now he is said to be murdered and Ravensmuir has fallen into my hands.

But even as I cross the threshold of this cursed keep, I hear his whisper in the darkness, feel his caress in the night, and I know that Merlyn has told me but part of his tale. Should I do as is right and expose his lair? Or dare I trust my alluring but deceptive spouse - the rogue who destroyed my heart?

Just so you don't miss it, Geralt posted a kobo code good for $1 off - kobosta1406. I successfully multi-tabbed it for multiple use. So if there are any $0.99 books you're on the fence about, nows the time to get them.

I grabbed a bunch of box sets,
Against the Ropes by Sarah Castille
and A Beautiful Mess by T.K. Leigh

Any $0.99 suggestions that are in the Kobo store?

Free today: Wicked and Wonderful by Valerie King, first published as a sweet Zebra Regency Romance in 2005.

Quote:
Her heart may long for more…

Judith Lovington escaped a vile man years ago and found sanctuary in a traveling troupe of actors. Fending off the unwanted attentions of rakish gentlemen has become second nature to her. But when Lord Kelthorne begins his assault, never has temptation been stronger. How will she withstand his heated kisses when he represents all that she lost so many years ago and all that she desires now?

But his wicked intentions drive her into his arms…

Kelthorne meant only to have a little fun when he first caught and kissed Judith in his apple orchard. Though intent on mending his ways and marrying a proper young miss, he can’t forget the lovely songstress and sets about to break down her every reserve. As he takes his stolen kisses, however, his clever seductions set to work on his own heart. But will he surrender to love at long last?

Gah, went a little crazy, but they're free so what the heck. Some authors that I "bought" with that code; JJ Knight, Roxy Sloane, Jessica Wood, Rachael Wade, M.S. Parker, Inglath Cooper, J.L. Berg, Chelsea M. Cameron, Emily Snow, Tawdra Kandle, A.O. Peart, S.E. Lund. Other suggestions that I already had but may be $.99; Elle Casey, Emma Hart, Chelle Bliss, Shanora Williams

Thanks! I'll take a look.

Also FYI for Kristen Ashley fans, the Berg books 1-4 are all still $0.99 on Kobo.
