Before I first restored my kindle ,when i upgraded to 5.7.2.1. I tested the koreader is OK.
Then I restored my kinde . So I have to wait for the next jailbreak, is it right?

For those of us JB'd and now on 5.7.2 with the previous hotfix, is there any point updating said hotfix before going to 5.7.2.1?

The hotfix just installs the extra components which protect the jailbreak (upstart job, fixup script, gandalf).

Those keep working.



The hotfix installer needs to be updated sometimes, though.

I got Amazon email's that I require firmware update to continue using my Kindles. I assume one of these refers to PW B024 running 5.3.3. I'd like too keep or re-install screensavers hack after update. Can someone please tell me the best sequence to get updated? Should I update OS or jailbreak/hacks first and to what version? Currently have jailbreak, usbnet, screensaver hack, and backdoorlock installed -- all May 2013 or older. Thanks.

Install Amazon update package.

After the update you will be using a firmware version that requires KUAL and MrPI (a KUAL extension) to re-install everything.
(but you can dump all of the update*.bin files in /mrpackages and MrPI will just get after it <- ah, means: do them all in proper order)

The e-mail is a bit misleading -
Amazon is going to update their servers and system from 20th century crypto to 21st century crypto.
I.E: All devices will need a new set of ssl certificates.
Any other changes are just eye-candy.

Well, that and I assume the emails only apply to pre-K4NT devices since Amazon nominally still supports them.

OTOH, I did not get an email about my Kindle Touch but I did get an email about Kindle for PC (which, I haven't used in long enough that I forgot I once registered it).

Thanks knc1. I'm ready to try but still wary. What version is the Amazon update (from 5.3.3)? Or does snapshot "K5 JailBreak (5.0.x - 5.4.4.2) | kindle-jailbreak-1.14.N-r12841.tar.xz | 2016-Feb-14 02:59:22 |" survive firmware upgrade to 5.6.5 or 5.7.x?

That is the one and it will survive.
Even if you already have a JB installed, it does no harm to install the most recent anyway (NiLuJe designs it that way).
