I bought it from Chapters / Indigo and got the last firmware upgrade.

I don't know. The battery ratings for both were posted when the Aura ONE came out. I don't remember what they were, but I think the Aura ONE was a little more than half that in the Aura H2O.

With regard to weight and size: I think companies are going berserk. Even the biggest and heaviest e-reader inside a cover are much smaller, thinner, and lighter than any hardcover book I own. There's no need to make them thinner or lighter.

The KA1 in its official cover is half as thick as my KPW1 in a third party cover, and the KPW1 is already half to one third of the average mass market paperback.
I have seen a lot of discussion trying to find the lightest ereader due to strength problems. This is from people with arthritis or other problems. Going to an ereader means they can read again. Cutting 50 grams off the weight means they can read for longer periods.

I've said this a gazillion times here - I suspect directly to you, before - but I'll say it again. "There's no need.." for YOU.

Lots and lots and lots of people who read ebooks do so because they cannot hold a hardback or trade paperback. Some also even struggle with mass market paperbacks. Lightweight ereaders are a massive accessibility boon.

Saying that there's no need for lightweight ereaders is like saying that there's no need for adjustable font sizes.

The LEDs are definitely a big battery drain.

Nickel puts reader asleep (at least when speaking about H2O) except IR, using about 1mA, after few seconds (I think 7s). But, if you have LEDs on, they continue to drain battery.

If KA1 uses LEDs, then this feature of nickel to put reader in sleep except for IR this means it uses much more battery than H2O.

Anyone who mentions (s)he has problems with battery should mention if LEDs are on or off while reading.

Lots of people read eBooks because they need to have a larger text size than you get with a paperback. Weight doesn't necessarily come into it. Besides, the iPad Air 2 is 437g. The Kobo Aura One is 230g. I think Kobo could have upped the weight some to get better a larger capacity battery.

When the KA1 is asleep, the light should be off. Also, the IR sensors should also be off. Why do you think the light and IR are both on?

People who find lower weight devices more accessible are not people with isolated vision problems. They are people with hand/arm weakness, arthritis or other pain conditions.

I know what the iPad weighs. I own one. And I cannot read books on it for any period of time. YET AGAIN, people who have trouble with devices and books of that higher weight find lighter devices more accessible. I don't know why you so persistently resist the fact that this is an issue for people who are not you. It's really very straightforward to engage in a moment of empathy.

I believe Alan is talking about a different type of sleep.

I checked my reading history, and it looks like I did lose some battery life going from the Touch to the Glo; I guess I didn't notice because battery life was so long.

But there are also people who do not need that much lighter but do need the larger screen.

My understanding is that the CPU goes into a low power mode, and certain events/interrupts will wake it up: touch, a timer, ... Try this:

1 Count to ten Mississippi, and turn a page, noting how long it takes to page forward
2 Now page back and page forward without a delay

The page forward for (2) is quicker. I believe this is due to the alternate sleep (I tried it under several different page turning scenarios, to try and make sure it wasn't a cache thing).

That's not sleep mode. That's low power mode.

In sleep mode, the light is off and so is the IR touch.
