Either that or you just don't know that you know someone who has done gone that route.

There are quite a few Flanders & Swann fans around. If you don't have their songs already, I highly recommend "The Complete Flanders and Swann": http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B002ZCJBCY/
and
"Hat Trick": http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B000UVP6O4
(which I have yet to get myself) looks worth a listen too.

I also recommend the splendid Donald Swann website at http://www.donaldswann.co.uk/

Sounds familiar. When my optometrist was advising on my choices for cataract surgery, he mentioned that the guy he considered the very best also had "... the bedside manner of a porcupine." Still, that was who I went with. Having grown up in New England I could relate to his very dry Polish-accented humor, but I could see how it would be a lead balloon to someone raised in the American South.

"a voice in her earhole" was usually "a beard ..."

I first discovered my friend Margaret had transitioned when I met her at a conference after not seeing her for a couple of decades. She said "Do you recognize me? You can be forgiven if you don't." I said "You'll have to forgive me.", and she explained who she was.

I mentioned it to another friend later, commenting that I hadn't seen her since she was him, and it left me musing on the nature and use of pronouns. She said her SF writer husband had written a book featuring aliens whose sex changed normally, and had worked out a complete system of pronouns to deal with it.

Ursula K. LeGuin's classic SF novel _The Left Hand of Darkness_ featured a variant of humanity on the planet Gethen who were neuter until mating time came around, at which point they might become either male or female. One of their notions of perversion was folks who used hormones to force a particular gender when they came into kemmer, instead of accepting the luck of the draw. LeGuin commented in later years that if she were to do it again, she would have used she instead of he to refer to them, as it better suited the points she was making.

Have I been leading the sheltered life, despite frequenting lots of bars and disco's in my days or what.
Most of the trans or gender ambiguous folks I've known I met in college, where the atmosphere was in general very friendly and it was safe to be open about that kind of thing.

my insurance company has switched me to receiving my meds by mail, getting 90 day supplies at a time. that's fine, I don't have a problem with that. I just picked up my package at the RENTAL post office box that I have. this package was not tracked, I didn't need to sign for it, it wasn't insured... nada. in the package? over 500 tablets of vicodin, and 90 strong sleeping tablets, a medication that is very similar to valium. if I didn't have this rental post office box, the package would have been dropped at my gate with absolutely no tracking, security, nuthin'! these are the same pills that everyone gets all the spam emails about buying them online! I'm debating whether it is worth calling my insurance company and registering a concern

Sorry to say, but I was correct. It was NOT Flanders & Swann I was quoting. If you look at the enlarged font at the end of the line, the sentence that read "All un-perforated!" The quote was NOT from the Flanders & Swann version, but from a group called 'The Limelighters,' unfortunately a little remembered folk group of the 60's-'70's
