Harlan Ellison's "Deathbird Stories" has an interesting take on the God/Satan relationship. I can't remember the title, but the entire book is excellent. It actually comes with a warning from the author! Emotional dynamite!

I've never been to Vegas. Or Atlantic City. I went to Lake Tahoe once. I thought it was an insomniac's private Hell.

He had sold the business I worked for, so quick as a flash I prepared a stat dec and raced up the road on foot to meet him. He even took my details in case he had some work for me

Today I:

looked at furniture (coffee table, side table, entertainment unit)
bought two more t-shirts (I tend to wear shirts until threadbare)
had a play with an iPad at Myers.

I:

think we have finally found the right bits of furniture
like my t-shirts, especially that they fit (sizes always vary so much)
really want an iPad

Homemade pizza for dinner.

The knowledge that is imparted by the tree's fruit is the ability to distinguish good from evil. Before they ate it, Adam and Eve were naked, but that was all right because they didn't know it was a bad thing. Or didn't sin exist before they ate the fruit? Or were they living in sin but that was all right with god because they didn't know it? Like all Old Testament stories, it's rather confusing and intriguing. Certainly raises way more questions than it answers, IMO.

Also, an interesting aspect to the story is that God chases Adam and Eve from the garden of Eden because he is afraid that after the tree of knowledge, they will find the tree of life - and then they would be the equals of God. Obviously he can't let that happen, so off they go.

Your post reminded me of something from Catholic school ( the nightmares about nuns are your fault tonight! )
They always hit on the idea of shame. Adam and Eve were ashamed of their nakedness and hid from God's view. Now I never understood that back then, but later I felt it wasn't about evil, but self awareness. Being naked is okay, knowing it isn't. Innocence lost, not evil born. Cain and Abel is the birth of evil.

My only experience with nuns was a piano teacher called (by me) Sister of no Mercy. She was mean to me

But she did not teach me scripture, only piano.
