Basicly, the princip of that kind of device is perspective, so I've bought myself one A81.
My personal review: PLUS: I got the basic purpose from it. Watching movies and 'PLAN B' surfing along the internet. Screen is good and looks large. Battery is good also. And that's it. MINUS: Internet surfing (default is internet explorer) is veeeeeery slow, it doesn't supports flash. 'Stereo' speakers are small and noisy. GPS is unusefull (you can't get any application to work + there is no software clues that GPS exists in that device). I've got stylus jammed inside for about two months already. There are just few applications which can be installed on A81. ANDROID is promissed to be release late december 2009 and there is no clues about it (and by the way, how will android (if even released) work on a device without buttons?!) The only solution for this device to survive in this 'fast uprizing MID production' market is to release (or to convert) a looooaaads of software (or even another OS), so users can realy use this MID. And by the way, this is Witstech's kind of 'international' software support: http://www.witstech.com.cn/service1.html funny, a? I regret, that i didn't pay 200$ more and have decent XP device. If someone wants, I give away A81 and Smart Q7 for 220 EUR, shipping costs by buyer. Contact me on my cell: +386 31 474444 (international number) or eboom.enterprise@gmail.com. Ordinary Bank Transfer, Paypal or Wester Union accepted. |

@Houndx: re battery life
I noticed something similar at first. Now when I don't need wifi I keep it turned off, that drains my iPod Touch quickly too so not exclusive to A81. When I'm putting it down for more than half an hour or so I power down instead of using standby. The battery life now seems acceptable. There are some valid complaints about Witstech supporting this with firmware and OS upgrades as promised. It works fine as a reader, not my first choice to slide into a pocket but the screen is great and it works with a wide variety of file types. It is my first choice for watching video away from home. I have a little 18,000 mAh battery pack that would work great with this if the A81 didn't have such an oddball power input plug. Too long and narrow and I've been unable to find a tip that works. I don't regret buying this as a stopgap until I've tried an iPad or the Adam comes out but they did promise us Android a long time ago. Both of the other devices will be even harder to fit into a pocket than the A81. What I'd really like is an Adam or iPad that's got a widescreen 5 or 6" screen. That would still fit into some shirt pockets yet still be much better than the 3.5" iPod Touch screen. I use it 90% of the time as just an ereader and it works fine for that. It's much bulkier and has less battery life than an e-ink device but has a very wide selection of backlight levels, colors for fonts and background, many fonts and far more font sizes than any eink device. It's hard for any device to rival the App Store but if they can't even provide a Linux port or limited Android, this device won't make it. Too many incremental firmware updates that don't do anything much instead of focusing on getting the promised OS upgrade! Last edited by nonanon; 03-19-2010 at 04:43 PM. |

An update on the battery situation. I drained the battery the other day playing a video on repeat for quite awhile, until it wouldn't even turn on, then recharged it completely and it seems to be holding up fairly well.

my point exactly.......The main reason why I bought A81 is so promissed Android OS, because current Win CE is a CRAP, rare applications works on it...!! Only, but only reason why I still have A81 device, are movies. As you've noticed, Witstech's has crappy international support and page is useless. Very dissapointed. But I appreciate efford from Kathy, she is very kind. |

Chough. I recommend you install TCPMP Player. It works well with a few files (movie) types. You can also use it to view/play music and pictures. Much Much better that the crappy WMPlayer the comes with the A81. I haven't tried the additional plugins but will try them soon and post. May even allow for Flash support. Will post test results soon.

Has anyone created a list of programs and games that actually work on the A81/W1060 with WM6. Here's the list that I have found that works (try not to laugh). Any tips to get other games/program to work would be helpful.
Programs - TCPMP Player Games - ICBM On another note, the W1060 is a fantastic Ebook reader, movie player, portable websurfer, and picture viewer. It would also make a super portable game machine if more programs would work on it. Please, get the Android or Linux release out soon. Last edited by warone; 03-23-2010 at 06:10 PM. |

Apparently the beta version of Android is out for the A81 (See JT's forum http://www.jiongtang.com/fourm/viewt...hp?f=39&t=1228). Not much info, boots from an sd card, but it does not support sound, wifi or bluetooth at this point. No information on download either but it sounds promising.

Does anyone here have the ColdSun UI for the A81/W1060. I'd very much like to install it before the Android OS is released tomorrow. (Just kidding about the Android release).
