I hadn't forgotten Shemp, but with only three slots I chose the most famous Stooge lineup. It has been said that it is a sign of maturity when you can appreciate the subtle comic performance of Shemp Howard.

Returning to the thread's topic, there is an excellent movie that I recently purchased: 9. Although it didn't receive much notice when it was at the theaters, it is a terrific CGI movie that will keep your attention to the end. It doesn't have the flash of other CGI movies, but they have created an immersive world with a great story and interesting characters.

Have you heard who are playing the 3 Stooges in the Farrelly Brothers movie?

Here are the pictures:

Solitaire1, this was a very interesting and creative film that I saw at the cinema a while ago. The story kept me intrigued and captivated through the whole movie. The world in which they lived was hauntingly inspiring to me. A well developed and created movie. I fully agree with you; it is terrific!

I loved the visuals of 9, the steampunk feel and the design of the characters.
The story didn't do much for me though, it felt a bit simplistic.

Agreed. 9 was visually stunning, and not that bad a movie. I only realized that a lot of potential was left untouched when I read reviews by people with keener senses of quality than me.
After reading those, I had to agree: Fun to look at, but not much of a message (I hate saying "no story", and I hate it when people say "no story", since even the dumbest flick has a "story" )

My favourite film of the Italian Neo-Realist movement; absolutely beautiful in terms of its portrayal of a simple man with a simple wish; to work.

The story worked for me. While it may have been simple, it told a complete story with an ending (unlike many movies which feature a setup for a sequel). Although it did leave many questions unanswered, it gave us the answers that we needed for the story. I didn't mention it before but I must give kudos to the voice actor work, they all did excellent work.

I didn't get the same feeling from "9" that I did from the anime OAV "Blood - The Last Vampire": With "Blood" I was left with the feeling of an incomplete story, like it was one episode of a miniseries.

I tend to avoid reading reviews of movies until after I see the movie because I want to go into it without expectations other than the obvious, like I'm pretty sure that "Star Trek" would feature the U. S. S. Enterprise. However, I don't want a review to affect my enjoyment of the movie.

I thought Pandorum was much much better than what the critics said. i'd give it a 6.5 out of 10.....versus the critical response of like a 2 out of 10. It is a cross between "Alien" and "The Descent"....and some "Event Horizon". Yes, there are some derivative aspects but overall it was a good space horror film. Plus, I think if you watch a horror film, you should expect some common genre elements.

Children of men.

Just watching it now, again. That scene about 25min into the movie really freaked me out, continuous, no cuts ... obviously tweaked with CG, but still, the whole movie just makes me think about life.

If I were like that dude I added to my ignore list I could complain about laughable "futuristic" cars (they take a citroen dauphine or something and add some plastic, for example) and unnatural depth-of-field of the CG-enhanced world - but that doesn't render the movie less impactuous (?), less frightening.

An awesome movie that I think more people should see.

Update / Warning: Makes your eyes tear and won't release that lump in your throat.
And if you're a parent, it'll make you scoop up your kid and squeeze him and never let go.

I haven't seen the movie (the reviews not being favorable) but it was based on a CG short:

District 9 was based on a short, too, BTW:

9 Songs, on the other hand, wasn't. (Okay, maybe it was based on lots and lots and lots of short films...)

Invictus

Just back from the movies. Watched 'Invictus'. Made by Clint Eastwood with Morgan Freeman & Matt Damon.

What a wonderful engaging film. The whole time I felt like I was part of it and at no time was there a lull in the movie.

So many small scenes, that made us think afterwards.

Clint Eastwood is getting better with every movie he makes.

This movie is for me a must for everyone who
a) is interested in international politics
b) Nelson Mandela
c) likes Sports / loves Rugby Union
d) believes there is hope.

I will actually buy this movie once it is out. Not something I usually do, but this one goes in my shelf (beside the other 2 movie dvds I own ).

Interesting. That does indeed seem like one to watch (even for us non-movie people. ).

And the poem:

Invictus
by William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I will now go and hunt down the book on which it is based (for all the non-movie goers):

Invictus looks an interesting film - but is it true they left out the food poisoning that affected the Kiwis in the final?

Yes, they left it out. And btw it's the food poisoning that 'allegedly' affected the Kiwis. Although, having met a few of the guys that were in the tour I do believe it did happen.

But tbh - if the loss of the All Blacks was the priced to be paid for what it meant to South Africa it was nothing.

There are also a few more 'mistakes' in the movie - but I am not that picky, what do I care if they used the wrong ball or not
