Well, that was fun. A good intro, in a world almost, but definitely not, our own, with a murder mystery leading to... but I'd better not say any more. Excellent.

Now a light, quick read - Mercedes Lackey's Skipscat short stories - SKitty, A Tale of Two SKitties, SCat and A Better Mousetrap.

Yes, light and fun. Perhaps a bit too much Dick Whittington in the first one, but I guess that's part of the humour.

Now a complete change - Alexander McCall Smith's The Girl Who Married a Lion

This is now at a ridiculous price. When I bought it it only cost me $7.61. Club price at fictionwise is now $18.70! Even Amazon are asking $13.20. Hmm... looking closer, Amazon have TWO versions of this for Kindle, from two different publishers. The other is only $7.83

I'm reading "Bookmarked for Death" by Lorna Barrett, which is the second in her Booktown mystery series. I'm really enjoying it

Yeah, those are pretty good. Have you tried Jessica Conant-Park yet? I'm about to start Fed Up, third in the Gourmet Girl series.

Just finished 'From Dead to Worse' by Charlaine Harris. Meh. It wasn't her best. I'll start something else now and take a break from these. I think I only have one more to go, but I need a rest

Just read the Kindle sample of THE SECRET LIFE OF CEECEE WILKES by Diane Chamberlain. Very nice writing and the story sucked me right in!

I really enjoyed the first 3...then I had to start taking breaks. It's a good series, but I probably won't keep reading it.

I just finished reading Lies I told My Children by Karen McQuestion. Good stuff. Fun little family stories. I really enjoyed the "voice" -- dry wit, some sarcasm, a lot of fun. The stories are nice little "reader's digest" entries kind of like you might find on a blog. It made for a really nice evening read.

Try searching under Susan Conant. Books on Board has them, except for the first one, Steamed. Oops, and Fed Up is the fourth, not the third.

An interesting collection of traditional stories from Botswana and Zimbabwe. I think I liked best the Hare and the Lion stories. The others are varied, and are very different to modern western fairy tales.

Now onto one re-read, Inferno and a new book, Escape from Hell, both by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle.

Inferno was first published in 1976. I probably read it in the early eighties. I've started the re-read, and it's surprising how much of it has stayed with me.

Escape from Hell was published last year. I hope it is a worthy sequel. Inferno doesn't leave you hanging - it's complete in itself, so it'll be interesting to see how they continue the story.

Hi I'm reading Sea Wolf by Jack London at the moment. Great book! Just finished U is for Undertow by Sue Grafton also good. Love Parker's Spencer books. Great PI books.
Roma by Stefen Saylor was good. I read it in France on holidays. Nice book on the history of Rome from it's founding to the year 0. But my book of the year 2009 would be Assagai writen by Wilbur Smith. I have read all his books of the Balantyne series and the Egyptian novels. I read them in English and my wife reads them in Dutch. Great read for everyone who likes adventure history ans romance! They are in a timeline so if you start on them read them in the sequence Mr Smith wrote them.

Sounds ideal reading for a French holiday, Goshin. Thanks for the tip, though, Stefen Saylor's Roma sounds ideal for me. Cheers. Neil
