Or to put it another way, I'm reading more than ever.

I will admit though that if I went to the used book store I could get them cheaper still. If they have the ones I want that is.
Fair enough!

Undoubtedly my problem with the concept is that I don't read best sellers, or fiction in general, and the Sony bookstore doesn't have much of what I like to read to say the least.

That's a great avatar by the way!

The upside is that this has also started changing in the last week or two. Sony's store is starting to price match Amazon's pricing on many books like B&N has been.

In the case of the two books that I mentioned, the Sony price was 40% higher than the Kindle version. The physical books are what I bought and they were each about half a buck cheaper.

Key word being starting here. They aren't going to be fully price-matched overnight.

Well, I guess we're just going to have to agree to disagree. I simply don't see the advantage of an e reader, given my reading preferences.

Then why are you on what is primarily an eReader site?

Back to the topic at hand: I just placed my preorder from Best Buy.

I explained why I'm on this site in an earlier post. Truthfully, this has morphed into a quest to find a good reason to keep the one I'm getting as a Christmas present.

No joy so far.

People are different for a reason. If it doesn't work for you, then no worries. Use what works for you!

Sony isn't the only ebook seller. Most of the books that I have purchased are cheaper that the paper version. (Dan Brown - at Sony and other sellers for less than $10). No recycling needed when I am finished and I can re-read the book later without having to repurchase or dust it off. Biggest advantage - I have 160 ebooks and todays newspaper on my prs900 taking up less space in my purse than a regular paper back book.

I think Starka is very curious about having an e-reader and wants to open it up and play with it to be sure it's not something worth keeping. But the quandary is, a better price will be remitted for an un opened package....

I say if the box is open and the e-reader is surveyed by Starka, the device will no longer resemble a device but rather the beautiful gift it was intended to be. It is quite clear that Starka's lady friend has vision of the benifit an e-reader will bestow onto Starka. A view that Starka is trying to peek into without opening the box.

The basic quandary of Pandora's Sony box.

Just so!

I really do want to find it useful, as it is a gift from someone trying to do something nice. However, it's far too much money to spend on a device that might ultimately end up in the back of the closet.

I think you should just return it, or sell it to someone who would never leave it "in the back of the closet". If money is your concern then eBay it, there are many people offering US500+ to get their hands on the device you cannot find a reason to keep

4nefertiti, could you furnish a couple of links to other booksellers if you have the time? I was looking for a particular book just last night and the Sony site doesn't have it.

Thanks!

you could try www.booksonboard.com, www.kobobooks.com... inkmesh.com is a site that lets you search various sellers for an e-book. If you don't mind me asking, what sort of books do you think you would like to read on an e-book reader (genre, author)? It might help us steer you in the right direction if we had a list of authors that you like, for example, or the subject matter that you are most interested in.
