PRS-900 pre-orderers

The Sony Reader Daily Edition (PRS-900BC) will have pre-orders shipping Dec. 18 thru Jan. 8 (Actual delivery date won't be guaranteed)...
How are you pre-orderers holding up?
What are your plans for the first book to download to your Daily Edition?

I've not pre-ordered one yet but I am almost (98%) sure I'll be getting a 900. I just have to see one and touch it and play with it for a little bit to make the final decision. And also it will be nice to see some peoples comments and reviews once they get theirs. Although I dont expect there to be any surprises given the consistently favorable comments on previous Sony readers.

I'm just hoping there is a store near me that has a demo model sometime in the next month!!

What book will be first? No idea, I've already spent several hours downloading Calibre, and a bunch of books from Baen and project Gutenberg, by the time I actually get a reader I should have well over 100

Any updates on the earliest shipping date?
My order status shows shipping on 12/7, but that seems to be just a "placeholder" date.

Shipping Date

I pre-ordered on 9 Dec 2009 and 2 days later saw this on the Sony Style site:

Items:
1

Order Status:
Shipping update

Estimated Ship Date:
12/10/2009

However, supposedly there is supposed to be an email sent when shipped. I have not received it yet.

stil waiting

My pre-order ship date said Nov 23, 2009. Since I havent had notification from Sony nor has the date been updated, i don't know what to think.

Still (not so) patiently waiting.
First books will be thinks I downloaded to an sd card on my 505 right before it died (they did replace it since I had only had it 5 months - just not the color I originally had so I sold it on ebay).

My ship date is two weeks old. Apparently, the date is only a placeholder.

Yeah. the date was a placeholder for the day after purchase - which most items will be shipped.

First batch is expected for delivery today and tomorrow.

Hello, Merry Christmas (belatedly) and Happy New Year to all!

I have a bit of an odd question here. My lady friend has bought me a PRS 900BC for Christmas. (I asked her not to, but she did anyway.) Shipping has apparently been delayed, and I asked her to please cancel the order and get her money back...I really don't need or want an e-reader, but she insists. I read quite a bit, but am fine with physical books.

That's the background, so here's the question: Is there a secondary market for these things yet? Can I get at least most of her money back for her?

Thanks!

If she receives it before Mid-January, it will sell at a premium on Ebay as a new, unopened PRS-900. Also, if you wanted to list it on MobileRead.com, i'm sure you will receive offers very quickly. Once online retailers such as Amazon and Newegg get it in stock, the price will fall somewhat as no sales tax accrues on purchases from these sellers. My suspicion is that the price will be discounted by a small amount by President's Day.

I had two used 505's and a used Kindle DX that I sold on Ebay with very little discount from list price or acquisition price.

I might do just that, then. She told me yesterday that it supposedly shipped on December 22, but who knows really with a new product rollout.

There won't be any registration issues?

Mine just arrived today (ordered Dec 24). I've only spent 5 minutes with it, but I can tell I'm mostly likely gonna like it enough to keep it, and return the 300 to Best Buy. More thoughts tomorrow after spending some time with it this evening.

Not long ago, I bought two books on Amazon.com; one a biography about Jerry Garcia, the other about Eric Clapton. The two physical books were cheaper than the downloads from the Sony store. So I guess my question would be, what's the attraction? If I was still traveling, it might be worthwhile. Can you tell me why you think it's worth the rather large sum that these things cost?

I'm reading ebooks that cost between $3 and $4.50. And these are not unknown aurthors.

When I have time to check out the next big selling author I just may spend $10 or so.

But in the meantime I'm reading LOTS of my favorite authors for less than $5.

Or to put it another way, I'm reading more than ever.

I will admit though that if I went to the used book store I could get them cheaper still. If they have the ones I want that is.
