You and me both, Shel. She is right there at the top of my list--and often in the number one spot (right after I read something of hers.) Just a gem. An absolute gem. Did you know she put out a book on Egyptology? My library has it. I will look to see if I can find the title.

Oh--thought of another author that you might like. Virginia Lanier. MUST READ. Not too cozy. More towards straight mystery--much like I would classify Sandra West Prowell (another MUST READ, but she is out of print. Go forth and dig until you find them!!!!)

We shall load you down under a heap of books until you cry mercy!!!!

Hi, on the urban fantasy front, if you specifically want to avoid significant romance elements, I made an Amazon list.

And, of course, mine's on it too. But lots of other great reads.

All the author proceeds of 24 Bones go to charity (in particular to help Zimbabweans).

Emmma Bull could be cozy. I can't think of the title I read offhand, but it was okay. A sort of western cozy speculative fiction thing. Slow at the start, but picked up second half.

I assume you have read all of the Elizabeth Peters series (Vicky Bliss and Amelia Peabody)?????

You have not offended at all. That was *my* gentle opinion on Hal and company, which is not to say your opinion is invalid (nor does it make your opinion offensive.) Was merely thinking of the books you listed and jotting down thoughts on them.

Shel, you mentioned Galenorn. Have you tried her Chintz 'n China series? They're kind of paranormal cozys.

I'm pretty sure she was mentioned, but Charlaine Harris has two older series (Lily Bard and Aurora Teagarden) that are pretty good cozys.

Urban Fantasy wise. Jennifer Rardin (Jaz Parks) is good. Maybe go old school and grab Emma Bull's War for the Oaks. Maybe try Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire series.

My TBR list of books to find is growing. Yes, I've read and loved Virginia Lanier, also Virginia Rich. Sandra West Prowell is a new one on me.

Thanks Michael. I *just* ran across a review of 24 Bones yesterday and thought it sounded intriguing. Plus, I'll enjoy a peek at your list, you've nailed it - urban fantasy without too much romance or sex.

Haven't heard of Jaz Parks/Jennifer Rardin, the rest I have read and love. I bought the Chintz n' China series the second they became available in ebook. I also like the Sisters of the Moon series, and her books written under the pen name "India Ink".

Patricia Briggs has some wonderful fiction in addition to her newer series. One of my all-time favorite books is her "When Demons Walk." THE PERFECT BOOK. It has everything and is done so well. "Steal the Dragon" is also good. Most of her stuff is top-notch and highly recommended.

Mercedes Lackey --Diana Tregarth series--another series worth getting. Ellon Guon co-wrote another series with her--excellent. VERY EXCELLENT. Get them all.

And just to name another obscure author to really get you going, Elizabeth Cosin. Out-of-print BUT. SERIOUSLY. GOOD. These are more like Virginia Lanier in terms of mystery--not really cozy. But page-turners.

Buried. We will bury you under a TBR pile!!!
