I write cozies!!!! My "Catch an Honest Thief" is a cozy!!! It's over on Smashwords in several formats and also on Amazon. "Sage" is a fantasy/cozy, if there is such a category!!!
But okay--if you want some other recommendations... I noticed you don't have Kindle, but that's the format that I am most familiar with. Have you read Anne George? Wonderful!!!!! I know she is in Kindle and though she has grown angel wings and moved on, her stuff has been around a while. Her stuff might well be in other formats. I'd also recommend, Dolores Wilson, "Big Hair Flying Cows." Check the publisher's website to see if they have an ebook. They do have ebooks for some of their titles. Nevermind, I found it: http://www.medallionpress.com/blurbs/bighairpb.html (Their site is not that easy to use. You have to click on what appears to be the hardback or softcover to find out if they have an ebook. Go figure.) Very fun/funny book. I have to read through the rest of this thread to figure out what you might have already read. But I also recommend Janet Evanovich, One for the Money if you haven't tried her yet! Best, Maria |

I suggest Jim Butcher's Dresden Files novels. They are mystery/fantasy novels in a modern day, urban setting.

For Urban Fantasy, my favorites are:
John Levitt (Dog Days, New Tricks and Unleashed coming SOON) Ilona Andrews (Magic Bites, Magic Burns, Magic...something!) Maria P.S. The Dresden Files were okay. But not my favorite. I think I'm the only one in the universe that doesn't *love* them! |

Ooooh, you are tough cookie to crack, BUT in addition to the John Levitt, if you are still willing to read DTB, here is a cozy/mystery (no spec element)--fabulous:
Kaye C. Hill "Dead Woman's Shoes" (I think it's cheapest to order direct from Creme de la Crime, but it's also available at amazon and bookdespository.) http://www.cremedelacrime.com/backlist.htm Page down the backlist and you'll find it. It's on sale I think. Hill's second is out and should be on the way to me shortly. IGNORE the covers. I know they don't look at all cozy, (and are horrid) but I assure you--these are cozies--fun, lovable, excellent reads. There's a chihuahua, a missing cat, a sleuth on the run...and she must step into a "dead woman's shoes" to find a job... Seriously good stuff! Maria |

Robert Barnard - Death of a Mystery Writer
Jane Cleland - Killer Keepsakes John Dickson Carr - He Who Whispers Francis Beeding - Death Walks in Eastrepps John D. MacDonald - The Last One Left Since you're familiar with the cozy genre, you know the Lilian Jackson Braun and Margaret Maron books already? http://www.cozy-mystery.com/Agatha-A...rst-Novel.html Last edited by wayspooled; 09-10-2009 at 02:11 PM. |

Um. Hal Duncan is not cozy...Charles de Lint...I do have one sitting here. My impression from buddies is not cozy either...
Emmma Bull could be cozy. I can't think of the title I read offhand, but it was okay. A sort of western cozy speculative fiction thing. Slow at the start, but picked up second half. I assume you have read all of the Elizabeth Peters series (Vicky Bliss and Amelia Peabody)????? :>) Maria |
