Actually, I don't know. I'm only going by what it says in Calibre regarding the other AI models. They all mention having to buy credits after getting an account.

Try disabling web searches, IIRC, the gemini API gives that error with web searches enabled on the free tier.

Tried CoPilot? Worked great for me: Tell it you want a book cover graphic. Tell it the genre. Tell it what objects you want it to depict. Tell it the title/subtitle/cover blurb. Tell it the colors. Done.

Unfortunately, that didn't resolve the issue. I've probably offended the AI gods with some of my criticism of their online performance when I needed them, and now I'm being punished.

Yes, that would the the bulldozer that tore down Arthur's house. But obviously it's not to scale.

One thing AI is good for is cleaning up/resizing covers. I've used AI to remove badges and blurbs from covers. I've also used AI to increase the size of the cover when I could not find one of high enough resolution.

Preference > Tweaks > Hide AI features

If it not already done, set the value "hide_ai_features" on True and restart Calibre.
