@Quoth: in a glimpse of fortune, if I can understand, the test would be trying an epub page within the black text, and compare it to the same page converted in cbr (as cbr are image files, and so them background, in case it's white, is "painted white" and not an empty layer like it can be on an epub)? And so to see if on Kaleido 3 there is a dpi difference?
Here is a sample ebook I made. It shows a paragraph from Alice in Wonderland in black and then again in pure red and then an illustration from the book, first in black and then pure red. The red versions will look noticeably more pixelated than the black versions on Kaleido screens. White in a JPEG (it doesn't matter if it's CBR or ePub) appears the same as the background in a text based book, all the eInk cells are "off". I purposefully made the images in the sample have a white background.

Apart that Pocketbook doesn't seems to support xmi files images, I guess that the reason in there is simply beause as to render a red text, the filter will use mostly the red "dots" from the color filter array..
I was rather wondering if the black text into the baloons, on comics, if the inner baloons' color is white, might be rendered more close to its 300 dpi. I guess it can be likely so.

Yeah, exactly. Black and white content is sharp even on a image with other color content. Black on color won't look as good.

The iPad Air is an LCD screen. My iPhone 15 Pro Max has an OLED screen and when I crank the brightness, it's nowhere near as dull as that iPad Air.

The OLED screens used on iPhones/iPads are better then the LCD screen when outdoors.

OLED still sucks outdoors and in sunlight, especially with the glossy screens Apple uses. I don't want to crank the brightness to the max, I want to turn it off.

OLED is inherently the most limited in brightness, even though some OLED are brighter than LCD. The QLED has the most potential for brightness, though it's an LCD with green and red "quantum" dots to change the blue LED backlight.

If OLED or LCD has "glare" then it's either too bright, or a shiny surface or both. The eink are mostly matte due to micro textured plastic or micro etched glass. Matte LCD & CRT have existed for 40+ years. Shiny is cheap and a really good resolution matte finish is expensive. Maybe five companies now have matte OLED/LCD/QLED etc screens on some models that are glare free. They don't even need to be as bright in full sunlight because the reflectance is so low.

QLED is meh! But a lot of QLED does poorly for dark scenes. There is better LCD then QLED.

Properly adjusted?
You must have seen some badly adjusted TVs.

Nope. A lot of QLED TVs are low end TVs. The term QLED gets used to make it seem like the TVs are better then they are.

Maybe it's too off topic, but you can't expect dark to be way better than LCD, if you campare it to Plasma or Oled you may know why: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compar..._OLED_displays
Quote:
Contrast ratios for plasma displays are often advertised as high as 5,000,000:1.
Quote:
Sony claims an OLED contrast range of 1,000,000:1.
Quote:
LCD: 150 to 8100:1.
Quote:
As of June 2025, all commercial products, such as LCD TVs branded as QLED, employ quantum dots as photo-emissive particles; electro-emissive QD-LED TVs exist in laboratories only.[5][6]

LED-backlit LCDs are the main application of photo-emissive quantum dots, though it is applicable to other display technologies that use color filters, such as blue/UV organic light-emitting diode (OLED), MicroLED, or QNED display panels.[7][8][9] QD-OLED displays, which use blue OLED panels with QD color filters, started coming to market in 2023.[10] QD-OLED and QD-LED displays can achieve the same contrast as OLED and MicroLED displays with "perfect" black levels in the off state, unlike LED-backlit LCDs.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantu...rcial_products
Ps: btw, a Plasma Panasonic Viera 42"/50" costs quite cheap on second hands, nowadays (but it consumes).
Edit: the Viera contrast ratio might be like 1,000,000:1.

Maybe we should not prolong much the Off Topic I guess..

There is nothing else to say. All eInk color devices with Kaleido 3 are rubbish.

It's not a movie, like having dark vs light makes the depths, and btw I guess that the most majority of persons watches the movies just on LCD-likes.

Quite the reverse here. Only upper tier TVs are QLED. Only the top panel makers make the panels.

Not true at all. There are bargain basement QLEDs from manufacturers like TCL and Hisense (they also make their own panels). You can get them for under $500 USD. Nowhere close to top tier.
