BooxDrop Device Plugin

Wireless book transfer between Calibre and BOOX e-readers, over your local network.

This plugin makes a BOOX device appear as a wireless device in Calibre whenever BooxDrop is enabled on it. No USB cable, no cloud account — Calibre talks directly to the BooxDrop HTTP API the BOOX exposes when you tap the BooxDrop app.

Features

• Send books with streaming chunked upload and per-byte progress reporting

• Delete books from the device, and "Get books from device" to pull them back into Calibre

Requirements

• Calibre 6.0 or newer (tested on 8.8)
• A BOOX e-reader with BooxDrop enabled (Apps → BooxDrop)
• Both devices on the same Wi-Fi network

Installation

1. Download the booxdrop-X.Y.Z.zip attached below (or from the GitHub release).
2. In Calibre: Preferences → Plugins → Load plugin from file → pick the ZIP.
3. Restart Calibre.

Configuration

1. Open BooxDrop on the BOOX (Apps → BooxDrop). It will display a URL like http://192.168.0.13:8085.
2. In Calibre: Preferences → Plugins → BooxDrop Device → Customize plugin.
3. Click Discover to scan the LAN, or paste the URL manually and click Test.
4. OK out, then the BOOX should appear in Calibre's device toolbar within a few seconds.

Known limitations

• BooxDrop renames files on filename collisions (Book_1.epub); the plugin doesn't read the rename back from the upload response, so resending an already-present book may leave a stale entry in the device pane until you reconnect.
• Author/title come from BOOX's library metadata; files BOOX hasn't indexed yet (recent uploads) only have filename-derived titles until BOOX picks them up.
• Subnet scan probes only the primary outbound interface (single /24). Multi-NIC setups (Wi-Fi + Ethernet) only cover one segment.

Tested on

BOOX Nova Air 2 + Calibre 8.8 on macOS 15. Reports from other BOOX models welcome.
