Smart Device Driver (Wireless) Auto-Conversion?

Is auto-conversion (to KEPUB) even possible? Nothing in the Smart Device Settings dialog.

Calibre's Preferred Output in Preference Behaviour had no effect, nor changing the order in device_drivers_SMART_DEVICE_APP.py.json.

It only selects the preferred output if it already exists/converted.

First, no driver makes that choice, calibre's device management system does. Second, calibre creates a new format only if no acceptable format exists. In your case, to get auto-convert to KEPUB you must uncheck all other formats.

Also note: the order is specified in the smartdevice client (CC, koreader, etc). You should change it there.

Not sure where to find this unchecking. Does this change the format_map device config file? KEPUB is first, but removing the rest (EPUB, TXT, etc) reappear on the next connection.

I also have the tweak for restrict_output_formats = ['KEPUB'] but still no auto-converting.

Kobo-UNCaGED is set to prefer KEPUB.

As I said above, change it in the smart device client. If your client is CC then change it in Settings / Formats & folders. I don't know where the setting is for koreader.

Thanks! You're right it was a client limitation.

Looking at Kobo-UNCaGED source is (currently) hardcoded to always include EPUB... Trying with an unsupporeted format did indeed trigger Calibre's auto-conversion. Expectedly failed since only EPUB>KEPUB is supported Will wait till it has the option.

Just as an update to this for those not reading the Kobo forums, the current dev version of Kobo-UNCaGED now allows the user to exclude formats from the list that it sends Calibre.
