I have reading goal files all over the place in the calibre config directory. I'm trying to see what I need and what can go.

My library is still where it's always been.

In the 2025 section, the earliest date is in February, 2025. So I probably first installed RG sometime in February, 2025.

The JSON database was always saved in 'config_dir/plugins/'
. The file name is 'Reading_Goal_Data_ + library ID'. Something like this: 'Reading_Goal_Data_5c9c3240-71e9-44ae-80ad-1fddde096afa.json'. You will have one of those for each library you accessed Reading Goal from.

The database files were never saved in other directories. Maybe those are you backup files. Check your backup configuration.

Is the problem of multiple json file in different directories fixes as well? Will this now be stable? Will I have a problem come 2027?

Multiple database files in different directories is a non-existent problem, as far as I can tell. Most likely those extra files in different directories are just your backup files. Please check your backup configuration, like I said. Backup files have the date added just before the library name, e.g.: 'Reading_Goal_Data_2026-05-09 (Main Library).json'.

The plugin is stable. But I can't assure you no bug will ever appear. This is inherent to software development. Also, I'm not even a developer; this is just a hobby. I started this plugin after a suggestion, but I use it everyday and it fits my needs. I'll keep trying to improve it and fix bugs, though.

The backups are kept in a directory outside of the config directory. They are in the default location. I probably should change where the backups go inside the config directory so they will get backup up with the config.

I don't recall doing any copying of the json files. But as long as it stays stable. It'll be good.

FreeFileSync would not cause extra files. The extra file would have to already be there.

Doy you have FFS set to use its DB to determine a sync? I let mine scan every time and no (extra) files get added during a MIRROR backup.

Yes, faster that way. And no issue with calibre library either, if you say that ignore it in the checking.
