I've been guilty of calling mine both the K4BNT and the K5. I think one reason is the wiki here on MR about Kindle Serial numbers. According to it, my device with serial number 9023 is a "Kindle 4 NoTouch Black (2012) / K4, K4B"
But yes, according to Amazon, the black is the K5. So...I just type whichever I feel like. |

You might persuade me to use K5NT if the Kindle Basic was a K7. But KT2 and K5 seem sufficiently differentiated to me. |

KT is also an abbreviation for Kindle Touch. See, this is where is gets confusing. The Kindle Basic should be KB2, KB3, etc. Whereas the Kindle Touch would be KT4. So it gets rather confusing.

I have a 7th Gen Paperwhite that was snuck updated to 5.16.2.1.1 last month. It still pulls books but it's a pain to get them to download and it's a gamble if they actually remove the DRM now. Here's the link on "The Verge" where it's talked about https://www.theverge.com/tech/908302...pre-2012-older |

It's also being talked about here on MobileRead: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=372947 and https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=372958, and I've already updated the first post.
Also, it's my understanding that 5.16.2.1.1 no longer works

So if I have understood the 95 pages as someone using a Kindle Keyboard to get my books, based on today's news there is no point getting a new E-Ink Kindle as it won't work?
Neither will a Kindle Fire, and K4PC may or may not work. Is this correct? Thanks |

Yes, it's correct (at the moment).

All summed up nicely in the first post. Correct that books from new Kindles aren't DeDRMable since firmware 5.18.5. And any Kindle between those getting cut off and the new ones is either already getting unDeDRMable books or probably will be soon. There are still working methods for Kindle for PC at this moment, but the process is more involved.

It is possible that might not last much longer either. Amazon has started referring to that as the “Legacy Kindle for PC” app. No sign yet of what, if anything, will be replacing it.
