Question about cleanup of nonexistent entries in user categories

I have a user category called On Kobo. Its contents are an enumerated column (#kobostatus) and a composite taglike (#kobocoll).

Occasioonally, I notic items disapppearing.

The 'Send to Device' and 'Remove from Device' #kobostatus devices, which not always present. But also sometimes all the #kobocoll entries disappear after tinkering with the template.

However, other times I notice that the entries are still there even when unused.

Any idea what triggers Calibre to remove an unused entry from a user category, other than user manually removing?

Cats. Where you looking at the FULL library or a VL? That might be for something not in a VL

I had to actually re-add the entries to the category, so i don't think it was a VL problem.
